NEENAH, WI (WTAQ) - The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources say the opening day of the 2014 sturgeon season was the best start in a decade.
The DNR said 636 fish were registered from Lake Winnebago Saturday. The agency reports another 242 were registered from the Upriver Lakes.
DNR officials indicate that the nearly 900 first day catch is the best haul since 2004, when over 1,300 sturgeon were speared.
