GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - Preble High School's principal sent an email to parents Saturday explaining that a fight outside the Green Bay school Thursday arose from "an ongoing community conflict."

According to Principal Natasha Rowell, this situation started with an altercation inside the school Wednesday. Rowell says police worked with staff members and believed things were under control until the fight outside the school Thursday when classes were dismissed.

Green Bay police made the decision on Saturday to step up their presence in and around Preble High School during a student dance Saturday night. Rowell indicated that increased security measures at Preble could last for weeks.

“We believe that this disturbance was as a result of an ongoing community conflict that spilled over into our school,” said Rowell in the email. She did not elaborate on what that conflict might be.

The Green Bay Police Department and the Green Bay Area Public School District will hold a news conference to discuss the situation Monday at 10 a.m.
