OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ)-- Oshkosh Corporation has announced the city of Oshkosh as its global headquarters.

A proposal was accepted by the Oshkosh Corporation Board of Directors.

The proposal includes selling a portion of the Lakeshore Municipal Golf Course.

In a press release, City Manager Mark Rohloff said “I am thrilled that the City of Oshkosh’s proposal was competitive with proposals that Oshkosh Corporation had been considering nationwide. I think that this speaks volumes about Oshkosh Corporation’s confidence that the City of Oshkosh will continue to be a great home to the global headquarters of a Fortune 500 company.”

The next step is for both parties to complete the land sale and development agreement.

The process is set to begin immediately, but is expected to take until at least April to complete.

DOOR COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) - A 17-year-old Gibraltar High School student has been charged with making a terrorist threat against the school.

Juan Jauregui allegedly posted the threat on Snapchat last Wednesday.

The schools were locked down the following morning until he was taken into custody at his mother's home.

The Fish Creek teen reportedly later said the post, which authorities say depicted Jauregui holding a shotgun with the caption 'don't go to school today,' was a joke.

The criminal complaint states Jauregui provided a written statement:

“In hindsight, I can see how some people have taken it as a threat.  I realize that I have made a big mistake and that I will be facing legal consequences for what I have done. I never felt like harming myself or anyone else. I did this to be funny and I realize now it isn’t funny at all. I do not have any hatred towards anyone at Gibraltar School, students, or staff.”

Cash bond has been set at $10,000.

An initial appearance on the felony Terrorist Threat count is scheduled for Monday.

Police say they took possession of the gun in the photo.

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - A Green Bay salon school is joining the fight against Alzheimer's.

The Paul Mitchell School is partnering with the Alzheimer's Association this month to raise awareness and funds to combat the disease.

Students spent Wednesday giving free manicures and pedicures to caregivers.

"Those caregivers do so much. It's such a hard thing. I watch my family go through it with my grandma and it's really, really hard. They deserve so much credit and so much gratitude and appreciation and what a great organization that we can partner with. We're so thankful. Especially this time of year, being so thankful."

Amy Shadian says proceeds from $1 gift basket raffles this month are going toward the cause.

Officials say 193,000 people in the state are Alzheimer's caregivers.

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - Green Bay Police is urging people to take steps to ensure the packages they order this Christmas season make it under the tree.

Captain John Laux says they received plenty of these sort of theft reports last year.

"You can designate a time of delivery.  You can have a neighbor watch out for your package, if they're going to be home."

If that isn't an option, Laux suggests having packages delivered to your workplace.

He also urges people to require a signature upon delivery and to place insurance on packages.

Mayoral Hopefuls Line Up

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) - It only took a few hours for three elected officials to voice their interest in Mayor Jim Schmitt's job after he announced he will not seek re-election.

The three who’ve expressed interest are Green Bay City Council President Tom DeWane, Brown County Supervisor Pat Evans, and State Rep. Eric Genrich (D-Green Bay).

All three say there's still a lot to think about before making any official decision.

The last time there was an open race for Green Bay mayor was 2003.

Four people ran with Schmitt coming out on top. Four terms later, the open race Schmitt has now created is expected to be even more crowded.

Pat Evans tells FOX 11...

“The one time I ran, that I won the primary, there were seven people in there. You could have a good six or seven and I think that is healthy.”

Evans lost to Schmitt in 2011. He says he is considering another run based off of feedback from constituents and business owners.

“They're looking for somebody that would be able to continue on with the development that is going ton in Green Bay and also have an understanding of finance.”

DeWane is also a former Schmitt opponent. He lost to Evans and Schmittt in the 2011 primary, and lost to Schmitt in the general election in 2015.

Hours after Schmitt’s announcement, DeWane told FOX 11 that he's already been talking about another run with his family.

“It might be time for something new, so it's something I'm evaluating.” Genrich believes the position of mayor could be a better chance to have an immediate impact on policy for Green Bay, compared to his current role in Madison.

“I love this community,” said Genrich.

“I'm committed to public service, so that's something I'm going to be talking about with my friends and my family and my supporters as we enter a new year.”

The mayoral primary is still more than a year away. It's scheduled for February 2019.

The families are getting a variety of Thanksgiving staples that they can prepare for Thanksgiving tomorrow.

Oshkosh Police Chief Dean Smith tells FOX 11 his officers are happy to help out.

"As part of this community, it's a good thing to give back to the community. The community takes care of us. It's a good thing to give back to the community and we want to take care of the community."

Around Christmas, the officers and the Boys and Girls Club will do "Shop with a Cop" to benefit those who might otherwise not be able to afford a present for their families.

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) - While some people take a cautious approach when it comes to packages they receive.

"We have a bigger lock box, that they put packages in," said Josh Schneider of Sheboygan.

Schneider tells FOX 11 other people he knows, aren't as careful.

"They leave their packages on the porch, till decide to wake up and get them."

As more packages begin to show up porches, the Green Bay Police Department is warning residents.

"We just want to put it out there, last year, we had a number of thefts," explained Capt. John Laux.

Laux says the thefts are crimes of opportunity.

"These packages sit there, they're very inviting to the would-be theft."

Ensuring your package isn't stolen this holiday season, Laux says the department is offering some proactive tips.

"You can designate a time of delivery; you can have a neighbor watch out for your packages."

Some thieves take a more high-tech approach.

Lisa Schiller, spokesperson for the Better Business Bureau says if you're shopping online, it's important to make sure your information is secure.

"Whether your shopping on Cyber Monday or any other day make sure your computer has most recent updates for spam filters."

Schiller says that also includes verifying each website.

"Only shop on trusted websites, look for Better Business Bureau's logo on the website, look also for that little lock and key."

Schneider says he'll be passing on the safety tips, to make sure presents make it under the tree.

"A little bit more aware of people stealing, and stuff like that."

APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) -- Local Fire Departments are using a visual way to share the importance of fire safety, and letting residents know when fires do take place.

Wreaths with green bulbs are hung on each of the fire stations in Green Bay and Appleton. After any fire, one bulb is turned to red.

The first bulb switch in Appelton happened on Wednesday.

Firefighter Brad Brautigam said it was a dryer fire.

"It was a small fire in the dryer of a laundromat. The message that we will get out is not to over stuff a dryer with clothes."

The Appleton Fire Department will also use facebook to share the information.

"We will post a picture of the wreath and then post the reminder right on our facebook page."

Firefighter Brad Brautigam said while the goal was to stay green, it does not mean the campaign was a failure.

"We are just trying to make the best out of it, and get that information out there."

Holidays have high amount of fires from cooking, un-watered trees, candles and heating units.

The campaign started on Tuesday and it will go through New Years.

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - Organizations in various Northeast Wisconsin communities are encouraging residents to shop at local stores this weekend.

Chelsea Kocken's 'On Broadway,' which promotes Green Bay's Broadway District, is among those taking part in Small Business Saturday.

This year, they're promoting more than just the shops.

"We're a big advocate for as well as 'shop small,' 'dine small.'  We've got several restaurants in the district, many of who have gone along with the Small Business Saturday and do an extra special."

Kocken says shoppers can pick up 'passports' are participating businesses.

"Over 60 (businesses) in Green Bay for sure, where if you get the five stamps, you can turn them in and then also win some great prizes."

She says one of the events geared toward kids will happen at the Neville Public Museum gift shop.

"The kids go in with, I believe it is, three dollars and buy some small item and then they wrap it for them as well.  Mom and dad kind of wait off to the side.  After that, they've got a nice little gift for mom and dad to put under the tree, that mom and dad don't know what it is."

Kocken explains why they promote the event.

"These are small business owners that are probably your neighbors or your friends.  The dollars that are going to their shops are going back then into our community."

Kocken says this is their second year participating in Small Business Saturday, the event's eighth year overall.

APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) - A local municipality has been recognized as one of 'America's Healthiest Companies.'

The City of Appleton has received a gold-level 'Well Workplace Award' distinction from the Wellness Council of America.

City Spokesman Chad Doran says it has to do with the wide variety of wellness initiatives they offer.

"That overall focus on complete wellness, not just from the standpoint of physical wellness, but also eating healthy, mental health, and all of those kinds of things as well. Everything from fun get-together type things to learning opportunities where we bring in speakers for employees to learn about health and wellness opportunities."

Doran explains why the city puts an emphasis on employee wellness.

"When employees are healthy and they feel good, they're more productive.  It helps them enjoy their job more.  That goes a long way with employee satisfaction."

He says they are looking to add new wellness initiatives in the coming months in an effort to better attract young professionals, who he says look often look for certain offerings.

"Flexible work schedules, being able to work from home, you hear lots of private employers offering their employees the opportunity to go work out in the middle of the work day."

Appleton does not currently offer those, but Doran says they could consider adding those perks, noting it would require a balance of keeping employees healthy and productive.

The 'Workplace Wellness Award' is in effect for 36 months (from when it was awarded in late September).

ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ) - The start of the Holiday Shopping season has moved around in recent years.

But whether it's Black Friday or Brown Thursday....shoppers in the Green Bay area know their stuff, put their game face on and then take on the crowds.

Shopko, at Bay Park Square in Ashwaubenon, was the center of the shopping universe for hundreds of people when the doors opened Thursday afternoon.

"You do have to game plan. We plan about a week ahead and get all the ads and stuff."

Pearl was ready to go....so was her friend, Chandra...

"Yeah...I would say we're pros. We plan in advance and get it done. Lot of eating....cocoa."

For 25 years Jim DePaul, Senior V-P of Stores for Shopko, has gone through what used to be known as Black Friday.

"Despite all the hype of all the business that goes online Black Friday for the brick and mortar retailer is still the biggest day of the year."

But Brick & Motar has had to change with the times.

Online shopping is much bigger than it was 20 years, or even 10 years ago.

DePaul says retailers like Shopko have had to change with the times to embrace e-commerce.

He says for many retailers the sales between now and the end of the year count for 50-percent of their yearly profit

Meanwhile, some shoppers say they hope to finish off their work this week.

In addition to scoping the ads, they've even been checking out the layout of stores ahead of time.

One other tip....the veteran shoppers say you have to pack your patience.

"One year we were at WalMart and sat in the paint can aisle for about 10 hours to get a TV."

Tips for the Leftover Turkey

APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) - A Fox Valley cooking enthusiast offers some tips for what to do with that leftover turkey in the fridge.

Jim Fett is with Williams-Sonoma in the Fox River Mall.

"Turkey carcass soup, where you take the carcass and everything and you put it into a pot with water.  You sautee onions and celery and all that good stuff.  You can add rice or you can make it with dumplings."

Fett suggests an alternative.

"Make a turkey pot pie, you make a roux with butter and flour for your base sauce with it.  You can add peas and carrots and all that.  Then put a crust on top, made out of butter and flour."

He notes there is also a way folks can spruce up their turkey sandwiches.

"I make kind of like a relish with cranberries, horseradish, mayo, and onions.  It makes a really great kind of mayo topping."

Fett advises people to freeze any leftovers that they don't plan on eating within a week.

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - Plenty of Christmas shoppers are hitting the stores this weekend.

Those with kids on their lists are likely seeing a few popular items popping up.

Green Bay Target's Eddi Flores says one of this year's hottest toys is Hatchimals, which he notes was also last year's favorite.

"A robotic doll.  It comes in an egg.  When you open it, it actually hatches.  It does a variety of interactive engagements."

Flores says Hatchimals are mainly geared toward girls, as is another of this year's hottest toys: L.O.L. Surprise Dolls.

"You don't know what's inside of them.  It can be an array of things.  It comes with accessories that vary."

According to Flores, a toy that is popular with both boys and girls is Fingerlings.

"An interactive monkey that responds to motion, touch, and sound.  They latch onto your finger."

Flores says toy brands that his customers say are popular include: Leapfrog, VTech, Nerf, Melissa and Doug, Our Generation, Little Live Pets, Imagine X, and Baby Alive.

Hundreds Killed in Egyptian Mosque Attack

CAIRO (Reuters) - Militants killed more than 230 people at a mosque in North Sinai on Friday, detonating a bomb and gunning down worshippers in the deadliest such attack in Egypt's modern history, state media and witnesses said.

No group immediately claimed responsibility, but since 2013 Egyptian security forces have battled an Islamic State affiliate in the mainly desert region, and militants have killed hundreds of police and soldiers.

State media showed images of bloodied victims and bodies covered in blankets inside the Al Rawdah mosque in Bir al-Abed, west of El Arish, the main city in North Sinai.

Worshippers were finishing Friday prayers at the mosque when a bomb exploded, witnesses said. Around 40 gunmen set up positions outside the mosque with jeeps and opened fire from different directions as people tried to escape.

"Four groups of armed men attacked the worshippers inside the mosque after Friday noon prayers. Two groups were firing at ambulances to deter them, said Mohamed, a witness.

The public prosecutors' office said in a statement 235 people had been killed and 109 more wounded.

Hours after the attack, Egypt's military launched air strikes on targets in mountainous areas around Bir al-Abed, security sources and witnesses said.

"The armed forces and the police will avenge our martyrs and restore security and stability with the utmost force," Egypt's President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said in a televised address.

"What is happening is an attempt to stop us from our efforts in the fight against terrorism, to destroy our efforts to stop the terrible criminal plan that aims to destroy what is left of our region."

Egypt later said it would delay the opening of the Rafah border crossing to Gaza after the attack due to security concerns. The crossing had been due to open for three days beginning on Saturday.

Striking at a mosque would be a change in tactics for the Sinai militants, who have usually attacked troops and police and Christian churches.

SUFI MUSLIMS

Arabiya news channel and some local sources said some of the worshippers were Sufis, whom groups such as Islamic State consider targets because they revere saints and shrines, which for Islamists is tantamount to idolatry.

The jihadists have also attacked local tribes and their militias for working with the army and police, branding them traitors.

The Sinai branch is one of Islamic State's surviving branches following the collapse of its self-declared caliphate in Syria and Iraq after military defeats by U.S.-backed forces.

Sisi, a former armed forces commander who presents himself as a bulwark against Islamist militancy, convened an emergency meeting with his defense and interior ministers and intelligence chief soon after the attack.

Security has long been one of the key sources of public support for the former general, who is expected to run for re-election early next year for another four-year term.

U.S. President Donald Trump, in a post on Twitter on Friday, called the assault a "horrible and cowardly terrorist attack".

"The world cannot tolerate terrorism, we must defeat them militarily and discredit the extremist ideology that forms the basis of their existence," he added.

Trump later called Sisi to express his condolences and said the United States "stands by Egypt's side in its fight against terrorism and is ready to strengthen cooperation with Egypt in this field," according to a statement from Sisi's office.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian and British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson also condemned the attack and expressed solidarity with Egypt.

SINAI STRUGGLE

North Sinai, which stretches from the Suez Canal eastwards to the Gaza Strip and Israel, has long been a security headache for Egyptian security forces because of smuggling.

Sisi has support from some Bedouin tribal leaders, who have helped the army locate weapon-smuggling routes used by jihadi groups, security officials said.

Local militant group Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis, once allied to al Qaeda, split from it and declared allegiance to Islamic State in 2014.

Bloodshed in the Sinai worsened after 2013 when Sisi led the overthrow of President Mohamed Mursi of the Muslim Brotherhood.

Islamic State earlier this year posted a video of the beheading of two Sufis in northern Sinai, accusing them of practicing "sorcery".

In July this year, at least 23 soldiers were killed when suicide car bombs hit two military checkpoints in the Sinai, in an attack claimed by Islamic State.

Militants have tried to expand their operations into Egypt's heavily populated mainland, hitting Coptic Christian churches and pilgrims. In May, gunmen attacked a Coptic group traveling to a monastery in southern Egypt, killing 29.

Common Post Thanksgiving Call....The Plumber

DE PERE, WI (WTAQ)- Many are calling on the plumber after Thanksgiving.

Along with being one of the busiest shopping days of the year, Thanksgiving weekend is also a busy time for plumbers.

Friday is known as "Brown Friday."

Master Plumber Andrew Verhaagh of Drew's Plumbing in De Pere says that it's the color of what is in your garbage disposal after the holiday.

"People use them as trash compactors instead of the little bit of waste that is supposed to go down it."

Verhaagh says plumbers are also called for grease buildup in the pipes. He says grease belongs in the garbage.

"It will actually solidify down the piping as it gets colder, and that causes blockage too."

Holiday food items to avoid feeding your disposal are egg shells, potato peels and carrot peels.

Beer Deals Attract Black Friday Shoppers

APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) - As the doors to Flanagan’s Stop and Shop opened Friday morning in Appleton, the small but determined crowd stepped inside the store.

“Good morning... come on in," Pat Flanagan said as customers walk through the door.

For many, their first stop is a section dedicated to a few specialty beers, some of which are only released on Black Friday.

Jeff Rollman and Zach Kopp had to get their hands on a few bottles from Goose Island.

“It is the best stout, I think you’ll ever see. It really doesn’t have anything comparable to it," Rollman said.

“These two are the Goose Island, which is kind of the original Thanksgiving tradition, and then this is a really rare one, Sam Adams, which actually they said it was brewed in '97," Kopp said.

As people filled their shopping carts, they headed to the checkout line.

“You are at $72.40," a stop and shop employee said to a customer.

Kopp couldn’t pass up on the black Friday deals.

“I saw this on the shelf here before but as the green price as opposed to the orange price so that’s what kind of took me over the top," he said.

The original price tag for the Sam Adams brew Kopp mentioned was $59.99 but the sale price is $14.99.

“It’s not about quantity when you’re getting the good stuff," Kopp said.

“My sister who had lived in California for 35 years moved back here to Wisconsin to help me with the family business," Flanagan said.

He owns the shop. His dad started the business 60 years ago.

“I basically grew up with most of these customers. They just keep coming back and coming back," Flanagan said, adding that his favorite part is talking to customers.

“And, taking care of customers and trying to get what they want for the holidays.”

Flanagan said sometimes he only gets 12 bottles of the specialty brews and they sell quickly. Epic Brewing, Goose Island, and 3 Floyds Brewing offer a few unique beers.

As the cash register continued to beep and the beer, wine, and other items made their way into a few boxes, there’s one last thing Flanagan wants to see before his customers leave.

“Let’s make them walk out of here with a smile on their face.”
