OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ) - Oshkosh Corporation CEO Charles Szews will retire on December 31st.

That's according to the company, who also said that Wilson Jones will take over as the chief executive officer on January 1st.

According to Oshkosh Corp., Szews will also retire from the company's Board of Directors on which he has served since 2007. He joined Oshkosh in 1996 as chief financial officer, served as president and COO from 2007 to 2011 before taking the reigns as CEO.

Jones will also replace Szews on the company's board.

"The Board of Directors is very grateful for the strong leadership demonstrated by Charlie Szews through the last five years as he led the Company to successfully overcome significant U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) spending reductions and the lingering effects of the Great Recession," said Richard M. Donnelly, chairman of the Oshkosh Corporation Board of Directors in a statement. "During his career, Charlie led our Company through numerous historical milestones and contributed to the Company's growth from $400 million in sales in 1996 to more than $6 billion expected in 2015. Most recently, he and the entire Oshkosh team worked fervently to win the revolutionary DoD Joint Light Tactical Vehicle contract.

"We expect the transition of Wilson Jones to CEO to be seamless as Charlie and the Board have been preparing for this for several years. Wilson has been with the Company for a decade, gaining greater leadership and business responsibilities, as well as successfully serving as president for two of Oshkosh's business segments prior to his August 2012 appointment to president and COO."

MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - Fall colors are just starting to emerge in Wisconsin.

Some places in the south don't have any leaves changing color yet -- while the Hayward area is at 35 percent of its peak, and other places in the north are up to 25 percent of their peaks.

The state DNR says birch, basswood, and red maples are starting to change color in the north.

Officials say it's been a good growing season for trees and plants -- and it should result in "spectacular" yellows, reds, and oranges once the season gets going.

Fall colors are big business in Wisconsin, as many folks plan their weekends around the nature show. Normally, colors reach their peaks in late September in northern Wisconsin, early to mid-October in central areas, and late October in the south.

The state Tourism Department provides fall color updates at Travel Wisconsin.Com.

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - Green Bay Packers right tackle Bryan Bulaga will miss Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks after suffering a knee injury during practice on Thursday.

Bulaga managed to dodge a major injury, suffering a sprained MCL and not a full tear of his ACL.

Head coach Mike McCarthy said Bulaga was still going through the evaluation process, but will not play in Sunday night's game.

It's the same injury Bulaga suffered last year in the season opener, and he returned after missing one game. Bulaga blew out the same knee in August of 2013 and missed the entire season after undergoing reconstructive surgery.

He's worn a knee brace ever since the ACL injury and credited that brace for saving him from a serious injury last year. Bulaga had that brace on again this week when he suffered the knee sprain.

The Packers right tackle signed a five-year, $33.75 million contract during the offseason.

Mike McCarthy wouldn't name a starter at right tackle Friday morning, but veteran Don Barclay took over with the number one offense after Bulaga went down on Thursday.

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - Two more students were diagnosed with viral meningitis at the same school building where a Green Bay kindergartener died last week.

Trinity Lutheran Elementary School student Jack Natzke died last Tuesday from the disease.

The building and floor are shared with Our Savior Lutheran preschool, where officials confirm that 2 other students were diagnosed last week.

After the 5-year-old Natzke died, classes were canceled for the rest of the week and the building was professionally cleaned.

"The child at Trinity school, as soon as that came up, of course the preschool was notified right away," Mike Charles, a church board of education member for the preschool, told FOX 11.

Parents of both the elementary and preschool were asked to be on the lookout for any signs of the illness.

"Last week there were parents that notified the preschool staff that their children seemed to have symptoms, and therefore, they were brought in and diagnosed with mild cases," said Charles.

The two children affected by viral meningitis returned to the preschool on Monday as classes resumed.

Viral meningitis is generally less severe than bacterial meningitis. People usually recover from the viral form of the disease on their own.

Immunization for bacterial meningitis usually start at around age 11. Viral meningitis cases do not have to be reported to the state, unlike mandatory reporting for bacterial meningitis.

According to the state Department of Health Services, 36 cases were reported in 2014 and 23 since the start of 2015.

Walker drops out of 2016 Presidential race, calls for Trump alternative

MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker has announced he is dropping out of the race for the White House in 2016.

During an abruptly called news conference in Madison, the Republican Walker says he's dropping out to allow for a "positive, conservative message" to rise to the top of the GOP field.

Walker said he's not seeing much optimism in the current race and has moved into constant personal attacks.

He also appeared to take a shot at billionaire Donald Trump, by urging other candidates to drop out so that voters can focus on what he called an, "alternative to the current frontrunner."

The two-term Wisconsin governor started out as a top-tier candidate when he declared on July 13, but in the weeks since has seen his poll numbers tumble and his campaign cash dry up.

Walker most recently polled barely above zero in the latest CNN/ORC poll, after performing in the 2nd GOP primary debate slightly better than the first one. It apparently wasn't enough for campaign donors, after holding a conference call last Thursday.

“The short answer is money,” a supporter of Mr. Walker’s told the New York Times. “He’s made a decision not to limp into Iowa.”

Walker's current term as governor runs through 2018.

MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - Green Bay native and Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice N. Patrick Crooks has died.

In a news release from Chief Justice Patience Roggensack, Crooks died Monday inside his chambers at the state Capitol.

"Justice Crooks was an outstanding jurist, a thoughtful decision-maker and a colleague with a wonderful Irish sense of humor," Roggensack said. "In addition to having served as a circuit court judge and on the Supreme Court, Justice Crooks made significant contributions to the legal profession as a lawyer and a teacher. He was a good friend and colleague, and he will be greatly missed by all."

Crooks is a former Brown County judge who won his first 10-year term on the Supreme Court in 1996, then won re-election in 2006.

The 77-year-old Crooks was typically viewed as a swing vote between the four-justice conservative majority and the two-justice liberal-leaning minority.

Justice Crooks and his wife have 4 daughters and 2 sons. Five of their children are lawyers, and one is a social worker.

Gov. Scott Walker extended his condolences to Crooks' family Monday. Walker made the announcement while saying he was dropping out of the 2016 presidential race.

Suspected case of viral meningitis closes Coleman schools

COLEMAN, WI (WTAQ) - Officials in the Coleman School District canceled classes Tuesday, a day after learning from the Marinette County Health Department that an elementary school student is suspected of having viral meningitis.

"We felt there was a lot of an uncertainty with where we are at with the situation," said school superintendent Doug Polomis. "So, as a result, we felt it was in our student's best interest."

Polomis says when word got out in the community and on social media especially following the recent death of Jack Natzke, a kindergartner at a private Green Bay elementary school, parents got concerned.

"You hear the words viral meningitis and the first thing you think is the unfortunate thing that happened to that young boy down in the Green Bay area," said Polomis.

Two preschoolers who go to school in the same church, Our Savior Lutheran, were also diagnosed with the virus. They have since returned to classes.

Marinette County public health officials say they aren't recommending any additional cleaning steps to be taken, other than normal cleaning of schools. But what officials are recommending is parents to ensure that their children are up to date on all of their vaccines.

Polomis says classes will resume as normal on Wednesday.

Health officials are planning immunization clinics for Marinette and Oconto schools. Parents are urged to check with the schools for a schedule.
