OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ) - The Wisconsin State Patrol says aerial patrols helped catch speeders on Highway 41 near Oshkosh on Tuesday.
Teaming up with the Winnebago County Sheriff's Department for a three-hour detail, the State Patrol's Air Support Unit watched drivers along the highway.
During that time, officers made 18 traffic stops and issued nine speeding citations. The highest speed was 96 mph.
During a typical patrol, a plane circles overhead and lets troopers on the ground know when someone is speeding. The officer on the ground makes the stop.
The State Patrol and area law enforcement agencies are planning more unannounced aerial enforcement details, particularly near work zones, throughout the summer.
