TOWN OF MENASHA, WI (WTAQ) - A Town of Menasha police officer is under investigation after shooting at a man for showing a gun.

Police were investigating an armed robbery at the PDQ Food Store on Racine Street around 4:30 p.m. Sunday. The shooting incident happened one block away at the Citgo gas station.

"The man was armed with a black colored handgun, and he made some movements, had the handgun pointed in the direction of the officer," Town of Menasha Police Officer Jason Weber told FOX 11.

Police say the incident in the Citgo gas station parking lot was because the 24-year-old suspect had just robbed the PDQ Food Store a block away. Authorities aren't sure how much money he took.

They say once the suspect showed a gun, a 13-year veteran officer on the force took action.

"The officer did respond with firing two shots towards the suspect. None of the shots did strike the suspect and he was taken into custody right after that," Weber said.

This is the second officer involved shooting in the Town of Menasha in the last month.

Winnebago County investigators ruled an officer was justified when he shot and killed 66-year-old Wilson Lutz, who had a 12-gauge shotgun pointed at police.

"Not really sure what the community is coming to here with two uses of deadly force in the last month, but this again is something our agency really hasn't had to face," said Weber.

Officers said the suspect, who has not yet been identified, was taken to the hospital as a precaution. They are investigating both the robbery and the use of force by the officer.
