GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - A 15-year-old cold case is moving towards the end, as authorities have filed charges against a suspect for the murder of Chad McLean.

On March 22, 1998, McLean's body was found near a bridge by the Sandalwood Golf Course in rural Abrams in Oconto County.

52-year-old Peter J. Hanson has been charged in the case, and is due in Oconto County court on Thursday.

Investigators say they still believe others may have been involved as well.

At a news conference Friday in Green Bay, authorities said the case could not have gotten to where it is today without the public's help.

Officials also went back and went over old interviews, and re-interviewed people who were part of the case.

They say the Hanson and McLean did not know each other prior to the night McLean was last seen.

Authorities say Hanson was on their radar from the beginning. Hanson has been held in the Oconto County Jail since November on unrelated charges.

A special prosecutor has been assigned to the case. He says there are some suggestions in court documents as far as a motive, but would not elaborate.

McLean's family was present during the announcement made by authorities, however all declined comment.
