GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - The debate over expanding schoolvouchers in Wisconsin brought out supporters and opponents on both sides of the Fox River Monday night.
Green Bay schools says expanding school vouchers to the district would be devastating and could cost them over a million dollars if just 200 students jump ship to private schools in the first year.
Residents sounded off Monday night during the school board meeting at the district offices in downtown Green Bay.
A vast majority of the 30 or so speakers came out against expansion of vouchers. A couple of school choice supporters shared their thoughts.
It was standing room only, with more than 100 people in attendance.
Meanwhile across the Fox River at St. Thomas Moore School, Governor Walker brought his message about expanding vouchers to supporters.
He urged supporters to reach out to lawmakers on the issue.
Walker says he isn’t looking for a fight; it’s about doing what’s right.
The details of any such expansion are still being worked out between the Governor and lawmakers.
