MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - If a GOP lawmaker has his way, it would be a crime for convicted felons to own vicious dogs in Wisconsin.
De Pere Representative Andre Jacque says police in his neighboring city of Green Bay are seeing more dog fighting cases -- plus dogs attacking officers.
Jacque says his proposed bill would not define certain breeds of dogs as being vicious. Instead, police could consider a dog's behavior to determine if it meets the legal definition.
Also, a dog could be considered vicious if it causes physical harm, or leads an officer to believe that it poses a significant threat.
Felons in possession of vicious dogs could be sent to prison for up to 6 years, and-or be fined up to $10,000.
