OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ) - The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says that the 2015 sturgeon spearing season will end on Saturday at 1 p.m.

DNR officials said that 74 adult female sturgeon speared on Friday moves the season total to 770, which is enough to trigger the 90 percent harvest cap. Because the full harvest cap of 790 adult females was not met, the season will last one more day.

Lake Winnebago was the only place for spearing since Thursday, a day after the season ended on the upriver lakes of Poygan, Winneconne and Butte des Morts.

The DNR says that 2,022 fish have been speared in all in the 7 days of the season. Lake Winnebago has had 1,734 fish harvested while 288 were taken on the upriver lakes.

Three fish topping 100 pounds were speared Friday, led by the 116.3 pound, 75.2 inch fish registered by James Fryman at Wendt’s on the Lake in Fond du Lac County.
