GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - A Green Bay man was sentenced to life in prison Friday for killing his girlfriend with a kitchen knife while her son was locked in the bathroom.
Richard Gardipee was found guilty in December of first degree intentional homicide.
Gardipee beat up Wendy Garcia, choked her, and then stabbed her twice back over the summer.
The two were apparently fighting over his use of pain killers. During sentencing, Brown County Judge Donald Zuidmulder said what Gardipee did was in cold blood. The judge also noted that Gardipee was a "cold fish" during the trial and showed no remorse. Prosecutors say Gardipee thought about killing Garcia hours earlier. He sent a text message to a friend asking how many years do you get for murder.
Gardipee will spend the 42-years in prison before he can petition for release under extend supervision.
