GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - Police in Green Bay are warning residents about a scam involving prepaid debit cards.

Police say they've gotten several complaints from people who have Green Dot cards.

According to investigators, the victims get phone calls from people claiming to work for a variety of businesses including Wisconsin Public Service, Publishers Clearing House and bond collectors attempting to collect on a fine.

Police say the callers either threaten to shut off the victim's power or have them arrested if they don't pay immediately.

If you receive one of these fraudulent calls, contact your local police department immediately.

You can also call the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection hotline at (800) 422-7128.

Wisconsin Public Service is aware of these incidents and asks customers contacted to immediately call its customer service center at 1-800-450-7240.
