DE PERE, WI (WTAQ) - A two-foot by three-foot religious text is on display at St. Norbert College.

The school is hosting a volume of the Heritage Edition of the Saint John's Bible.

The volume is considered a 'fine art limited-edition reproduction' from a handwritten original, with a full set containing seven volumes.

A total of 299 sets were reproduced.

The work was commissioned in 1998 by the Benedictine Monks of Saint John's Abbey and the University of Minnesota, with work beginning in 2000 and wrapping up in 2011.

A total of six calligraphers hand wrote all 1,150 pages, and the artwork was done by various artists from throughout the Midwest.

"The folks at Saint John's had a couple of things they really wanted to have come through this Bible.  They wanted concern for the marginalized, they wanted the role of women, they wanted God's presence in culture and in the creative world, and so they really brought in some really innovative and creative ideas."

Vice-President of Mission and Student Affairs Julie Massey says the volume on display for the coming year is worth $25,000.

GREEN LAKE, WI (WTAQ)- Cash bond has been set at $50-thousand dollars for a man accused of drunkenly leading police on a high-speed chase.

In court Friday, prosecutors say Jeremy Kirst led officers throughout Green Lake County, with the pursuit reaching speeds of 85 miles-per-hour.

According to officials, a deputy attempted to pull over a truck on Highway 23 in the Brooklyn Township, but Kirst allegedly took off before turning on a side street and going through a field. Sheriff officials say the truck hit an embankment and flipped over.

According to the report, Kirst got out of the vehicle with his dog and ran into a marsh. A police dog was able to quickly track them down near an excavating business. Police say before he was arrested, Kirst may have stolen another vehicle.

He was arrested in Waushara County.

While he has not been formally charged, requested charges include 10th offense OWI.

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ)- Jurors have been selected for the George Burch murder trial in Brown County.

The jury is comprised of 8 men and 6 women.

Burch is accused of killing Nicole VanderHeyden in May 2016, and his trial will start Monday.

Over 100 witnesses could be used in the two week trial.

Many potential jurors were dismissed because they have heard about the case prior to jury selection, and feel they have already formed an opinion, or could not judge the case without basing it off of what they know or have heard prior to trial.

Circuit Court Judge John Zakowski addresses the juror pool Friday.

"To get sufficient information, so that the parties to this case are satisfied that the final jury, which will be selected, is fair and impartial when they deliberate.  It is so extremely important: the efficient operation of our criminal justice system."

70 potential jurors answered a 22-page questionnaire to help narrow the the field.

In court Friday, questions were also asked about the use of fitbits or other technologies.

Senator Baldwin Addresses Kimberly Clark

APPLETON (WTAQ-WLUK) -While an effort is underway on a state level to save Kimberly-Clark jobs, Wisconsin Democratic Senator Tammy Baldwin also wants to make changes on a national level.

Weeks after Kimberly-Clark announced plant closures in the Fox Valley, workers said, they're still in shock.   Jessica Schiessl of Kimberly told FOX 11, "We had heard we were doing amazing and we had a meeting in the same room and we left saying 'We did it! We did it! It's great!' and three weeks later we got called in telling us that we're shutting down."

Senator Baldwin met with workers Friday. She said what's happening in Washington affected businesses here in the state.

"There is vast sums of money being expended on stock buybacks, on dividends for investors. Ninety-five percent of corporate profit in publicly traded companies is being used on stock buybacks, not reinvesting," Baldwin said.

Baldwin said Kimberly-Clark workers in Wisconsin helped create 3.3 billion dollars in operating profit last year.

"The fact that the workers in the company really contributed to the profitability, raised questions on how at once they can afford $1.3 billion in dividend and $911 million in stock buybacks and yet are proposing to pink slip 600 of those workers," said Baldwin.

The Republican-controlled State Legislature, along with Governor Walker, are looking at offering Kimberly Clark tax incentives, in hopes of saving the jobs. It would offer Kimberly Clark a 17% tax credit, which is more than double the 7% currently allowed by the state.

Walker told FOX 11, "I think in the end it'll probably get a broad basis of support. It's something people will understand, doesn't matter whether we're democrat or republican, it's really important."

And while workers say the uncertainty is tough, they hope it results with their jobs being saved.

"No one knows what to do," Schiessl said, "I mean it's just like holding your breath because you don't know if you should be looking for something else."

Another Kimberly-Clark employee told FOX 11, "I mean, anything that will help the community out is a good thing for us"

Kimberly-Clark says it has received an outline of the potential tax incentives, but says, no decision has been made.

DEPERE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK)- Emergency crews responded to an apartment fire, just after midnight Sunday.

"We got a call for a working structure fire, which is a way of saying smoke and fire," explained, De Pere Asst. Fire Chief Rich Annen.

Annen says police officers were the first to arrive on scene, "Prior to our arrival, they were able to gain access to the apartment, remove the occupant of that apartment."

At the time, Annen says the closest fire station to the apartment was already out on a call.

Which he says caused a short delay in their response.

Meanwhile, he says the officers worked to get people out of building, "The entire complex was full of smoke, and they made their way through the smoke."

Six officers were treated for breathing in the smoke. Three residents were also taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Annen says the fire was under control within 12 minutes, but the call was a team effort with De Pere Police, "They did a great job; We don't really want them in those positions but when it comes to life safety, they know how to act."

The cause of that fire is under investigation.

Firefighters say the damaged is estimated to be around $25,000.

Public Works Keeping Busy Despite Less Snow

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ)- Changing temperatures has been keeping Green Bay Public Works Department busy.

We have had worse winters, but Director of Green Bay Public Works Steve Grenier says his crew has been doing constant salting.  "Mixed precipitation is what we are concerned with this time of year. We really want to make sure that we don't end up with ice formation, that is really a killer. "We had that really early deep cold, and then we had that unseasonably warm. We had a lot of melt and that results in a lot of ice."  At this point in 2018, Green Bay Public Works has had two fewer plow events then they did at this time in 2017.  Winter months means it is also time to keep an eye out for potholes on the streets.  "Our street guys are out looking for these potholes all throughout the winter."  Grenier says all winter is technically pothole season. He says they form from due to temperature changes.   Pothole formation is caused from water finding a way into or below the pavement. That water freezes and overtime it traps additional precipation, forming layers of ice. Grenier says sometimes things thaw from the top down which eventually leads to soft spots with lots of moisture. Once the asphalt sinks down in the hole that is formed.  "We will try to do a short term fix by just filling in the pothole. Sometimes it takes a little more work or is need of a long term soultion, so that becomes a project for the summer."  Grenier said so far, this year is very consistant with past winters.

Arrested For School Threats

APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) - A 23-year-old Appleton man is behind bars after police say he threatened to shoot up a school. The Appleton Police Department arrested David Etheridge Saturday evening.

For some parents in Appleton, the arrest only added to the anxiety after the Florida horror that left 17 students dead.

John Gosling use to serve on the Appleton School board and has two daughters that grew up going to Appleton public schools. He told FOX 11...

"Every time a school shooting happens it's a tragedy, every time violence happens in the school, sanction or unsanctioned, it hurts our society, it just keeps the violence. That's unfortunately a part of our world."

Sgt. Dave Lund with the Appleton Police Department said Ethridge admitted to sending the FBI an electronic message saying he would "shoot up the school."

"There was no specific school that this individual stated that he would shoot up. However, obviously, in light of the incident this past week, this is a threat to be taken very seriously."

The Appleton SWAT team was able to arrest Etheridge at his home on the south side of the city.

Lund says Etheridge is being held at the Outagamie County jail on a felony charge of Terrorist Threats.

"Search incident to arrest at his house did not lead to the discovery of any weapons or writing material that would indicate the type of threat that was sent electronically to the FBI. That's why we are continuing the investigation."

Police believe there were other messages Etheridge had sent.

Police say they had contact with Ethridge in the past involving domestic violence, property damage and disorderly activity.

Some parents applauded law enforcement's quick action to eliminate the threat.

The Appleton Area School District did the same posting on Facebook it will continue to work closely with the Appleton Police Department to keep all students and staff safe.

Although the recent shooting can make it uneasy for parents to send their children to school, many said they trust their children are in good hands.

"I know that schools take extreme amounts of care in protecting and safeguarding entrances to protecting everybody in the building, so I'm really confident and supportive of all the school do in that regard," said Gosling.

Etheridge is expected to be in court today.

APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) -- The Appleton Police Department is investigating a series of shootings that happened early Sunday morning.

Three reports were sent to police between 1:18 a.m. and 3:16 a.m. and police think they are related.

The first incident happened at the Apple Pub on College Avenue.

Officers found several people locked inside the bar.

Those locked inside said a man had threatened them with a gun.

Sergeant Dave Lund says "an individual had left a bar, went to a nearby vehicle, obtained a gun, and came back and had made threats to several people."

No shots were fired at the pub.

Lund explains what officers believed spurred the incident.

"It appears that the initial disturbance that occurred downtown was a dispute that seems to have evolved from pool that was being played inside the bar."

The second report came in at 2:15 a.m. at Grumpy's Pub on Richmond Street.

When officers arrived they found a vehicle with multiple bullet holes in the parking lot of the bar.

Lund shares what witnesses told investigators.

"There was a fight that had occurred inside of the business, reporting shots being fired outside of the business."

Officials say the third incident came from a home on the 700 block of West Third Street.

Police found a bullet hole in the windshield of a car at the home.

Several people from earlier incidents were at the home, according to police.

According to Lund, "there's at least a handful of people that had direct involvement in these incidents."

As the investigation continued, someone told police they found several shell casings in the road on the 600 block of N. Bennett Street.

Officers collected the casings.

No injuries have been reported from any of the incidents.

Lund notes many of the people they have interviewed have been uncooperative and providing false information.

He says they are looking to speak with a person of interest, who is pictured above.

If you have any information about, police want to hear from you. You can reach police at 920-832-5500.

On Sunday afternoon the Appleton Police Department named a person of interest. After the man talked to police, officials say he was not involved in the incidents under investigation.

Advice for Wintry Road Conditions

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - A combination of sleet and freezing rain is expected in Northeast Wisconsin during the early stages of this week.

That has local law enforcement reminding drivers to be careful on the roads.

"If they take their time, keep proper distance between you and the next vehicle, and not be in a rush: most likely, you'll be able to get safely to your destination."

Warych says the most common cause of winter accidents is driving too fast for conditions.

"Once you don't pay attention and don't realize how fast you're going and there's inclement weather, bad things can happen.  They think their distance to stop is what it normally is when the roads are clear and dry but when you throw in ice, snow, and sleet, the stopping distance increases more and more."

While Warych notes people should be careful on all of the city's streets, he says people should be especially cautious in some areas.

"The side streets and all the untreated roads where there isn't a main thoroughfare are going to be heavily iced and very slippery."

The Fox 11 forecast calls for a combination of sleet, freezing rain, and a wintery mix on Monday afternoon.  Freezing rain and freezing drizzle are expected Monday night.  More freezing rain is expected Tuesday morning.

NEENAH, WI (WTAQ) - An iconic president is back in the streets of downtown Neenah.

As part of it's President's Day celebration, the statue of President Abraham Lincoln has returned to its bench on the corner of Wisconsin Avenue and Main Street.

The state was shipped to Colorado for repair, after being struck by a vehicle in November.

"People have come to enjoy having him. They sit and read a book with him. I see people reading books; people will come and put a scarf on him during the winter and they have a lot of fun with him. And it's just part of what makes Neenah a really great community."

Mayor Dean Kaufert says his office received dozens of calls asking about the missing statue.
