BROWN COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) - Health officials say four cases of Salmonella have been confirmed in Brown County.

That's among a total of eight cases across four Wisconsin counties.

Wisconsin Department of Health Services officials say the Brown County cases are linked to fresh, loose peas sold at the Downtown Green Bay Farmers' Market on July 22, with similar problems reported from the peas sold that day at the Madison and Fond du Lac farmers' markets.

Peas that were still in their shell at the time are not included in the advisory.

Health officials say the affected peas are no longer being sold.

Anyone with peas purchased from one of the listed farmers' markets between July 19 and August 5 are advised to dispose of whatever supply they have left.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says salmonella causes those it strikes to develop diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps 12 to 72 hours after infection.

Anyone who consumed peas from one of the three named farmers' markets and are experiencing those systems are advised to call their healthcare provider.

It estimates roughly 12,000,000 illnesses and around 450 deaths are caused by Salmonella poisoning each year in the U.S.

Elderly, infants, and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to have a severe illness.

Project Lifesaver Yet to Yield Live Recovery

OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ) - Since the April implementation of Project Lifesaver, Oshkosh Police Sergeant Todd Wrage says they have not had any live searches.

However, the department has conducted several test runs in case an at-risk client's electronic tracking bracelet indicates they've wandered away from home.

Wragge says the program is intended for "locating people who have a risk of wandering, based on a diagnosis such as Dementia, Alzheimer's, Autism, or Down Syndrome."

When a call comes in, Wrage notes officers are trained to ask where and when the person was last seen.

"What we're really doing at that point is deploying our electronic search specialists and equipment and looking for that first signal.  We get that first signal and then we hit the ground and start honing in on it."

Wrage says there is a way to distinguish amongst enrollees.

"The client wears a radio-frequency transmitter that is specific to them, so if we dial that into our receivers, we get only that signal."

Nationally, Wrage says the average recovery time is 30 minutes.

The sergeant notes there is an initial $300 fee for the electronic tracking bracelet, with a $25 annual maintenance cost, as officers go into each clients home once per month to change the batteries and ensure the device is working properly.

Anyone interested in signing up a loved one for the program is asked to call Wrage at 920-236-5757.

Currently, Wrage says they have four clients, three of whom are active.

BROWN COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) - Through their participation in a national program that targets sex buyers, Brown County Sheriff's officials say they recovered 81 victims of sex trafficking.

The agency is highlighting organizations that are available to those affected, such as Dawn Sprang's Eye Heart World.

"We will go in and meet with them and talk with them about what kind of things they have going on that keep them in the life and talk with them about what resources they need to get out of the life."

Sprang says they have helped 56 trafficking victims since beginning operations in November 2015.

Shelby Mitchell is a victim advocate for the Sexual Assault Center of Family Services and claims 40 people were exploited in Brown County between April and June.

"Traffickers are very meticulous about who they pick, and they do everything with a reason behind it."

Sheriff's officials say many victims are dependent on the person exploiting them for drugs, money, food, or material items.

They note signs that someone is a sex trafficking victim include unexplained absences from school, talking about wild parties and sexual behavior, wearing expensive clothing they otherwise couldn't afford, dressing less appropriately than in the past, and having a significantly older boyfriend or girlfriend.

Anyone who is being trafficked or knows someone who is being trafficked is urged to call the Brown County Sheriff's Office at 920-448-4200.

FBI Probe Into White Nationalist Rally Violence

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (Reuters) - U.S. authorities on Sunday are investigating the outbreak of violence in Virginia following a white nationalist rally that killed one person and injured more than 30, presenting U.S. President Donald Trump with a major domestic challenge.

The violence in the Southern college town of Charlottesville on Saturday was widely condemned, with many politicians and activists on both the left and right also criticizing Trump, a Republican, for waiting too long to address it and when he did so, failing to explicitly condemn the white-supremacist marchers who ignited the melee.

On Sunday, however, the White House said in a statement that Trump's remarks on Saturday condemned all forms of violence and bigotry, including neo-Nazi groups and the Ku Klux Klan.

"The president said very strongly in his statement yesterday that he condemns all forms of violence, bigotry, and hatred, and of course that includes white supremacists, KKK, neo-Nazi, and all extremist groups," the White House said. "He called for national unity and bringing all Americans together."

The violence has put fresh pressure on the Trump administration to take an unequivocal stand against that segment of his political base. Some rightists have claimed allegiance to him.

Trump said on Saturday that there was more than one side to the Charlottesville incidents.

"We condemn, in the strongest possible terms, this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides," he told reporters at his New Jersey golf course, without specifically mentioning or faulting the role of white nationalists.

Virginia police have not yet provided a motive for a man plowing a car into a crowd of people objecting to the white nationalists, but U.S. attorneys and the Federal Bureau of Investigation have opened a civil rights investigation into the crash, an FBI field office said.

Four people have been arrested, including James Fields, a 20-year-old white man from Ohio who is being held in jail on suspicion of crashing the car. The vehicle killed a 32-year-old woman and injured 19 people, five of them critically.

Federal authorities were also looking into a helicopter crash on Saturday that killed two Virginia state policemen aiding efforts to quell the clashes.

On Sunday morning, before the White House statement, Ivanka Trump, the president's daughter and White House adviser, appealed on Twitter for Americans to "be one country UNITED. #Charlottesville." She also posted: "There should be no place in society for racism, white supremacy and neo-nazis."

Also before the statement, U.S. Senator Cory Gardner of Colorado, who chairs the Republican Party's Senate election effort, called on the president to condemn "white supremacists" and to use the term.

"Calling out people for their acts of evil - let's do it today - white nationalist, white supremacist," Gardner said on CNN's "State of the Union" program on Sunday. "We will not stand for their hate."

An organizer of Saturday's "Unite the Right" rally, which was staged to protest the planned removal of Confederate war hero Robert E. Lee's statue from a park, said supporters of the event would not back down.

"Absolutely we are going to have further demonstrations in Charlottesville because our constitutional rights are being denied," said Jason Kessler, whom civil rights groups identified as a white nationalist blogger. He did not specify when.

Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe, a Democrat, declared an emergency and halted Saturday's planned rally, but that did not stop the violence.

About 15 people were injured after rival groups fought pitched battles using fists, rocks and pepper spray.

"There is no place for you here," McAuliffe said, addressing white supremacists. "There is no place for you in America."

The rally stemmed from a long debate in the U.S. South over the Confederate battle flag and other symbols of the rebel side in the Civil War, which was fought over slavery.

The Charlottesville violence is the latest clash between far-rightists and the president's opponents. At his January inauguration, black-clad anti-Trump protesters in Washington smashed windows, torched cars and clashed with police, leading to more than 200 arrests.

About two dozen people were arrested in Charlottesville in July when the Ku Klux Klan rallied against the plan to remove the Lee statue. Torch-wielding white nationalists also demonstrated in May against the removal.
