APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) - The fourth Mile of Music festival began Thursday morning in downtown Appleton.

More than 70 venues will be hosting concerts during the weekend festival.

The sights and the sounds are certainly a good indication that Mile of Music is back in Downtown Appleton.

Donna Buchinger is from Little Chute. She's taking in the tunes with her sisters.

"We've been down for every Mile of Music, and have enjoyed them. We weren't going to miss out on any of it this year."

Amy Peters is from Hollandtown

"We all love music, and we like meeting the artists, and it's such an intimate setting that you actually do get to meet some of the artists."

Mile of Music coordinators say more than 100 community sponsors help to make the event free, and accessible to a big crowd.

Dave Willems is the Mile of Music Cofounder

"It's going to be a cool opportunity for our community to showcase itself again. It's a nice way to connect music fans with our community, and we're looking forward to doing it all weekend."

Because the festival is free, event coordinators say it's hard to measure how many people come each year.

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - In a matter of hours thousands of supporters will be gathering at the KI Convention Center in Green Bay to hear from the Republican presidential nominee.

Preparations are underway for a campaign stop from Donald Trump and running mate Mike Pence Friday, August 5th.

The rally begins at 7 p.m. with the doors opening at 4 p.m.

Police chief Andrew Smith says they are prepared to keep everyone safe.

"We really don't anticipate any problem there. Obviously if there's protesters we'll be able to take care of that...working closely with the secret service to make sure everything goes safely and it should be a great event."

Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt says the extra police presence at events like this cost money.

"Sometimes these visits can be as low as $10,000 up to $30,000 but we will invoice the campaign for that. We're happy to pay for the security that we provide normally."

Schmitt says the Trump campaign is paid up from the last visit however he believes the Clinton campaign still owes money.

"We just enjoy having them choose Green Bay out of all the places they can go and everybody pretty much wants them. It's great they chose the city of Green Bay," say Schmitt.

WTAQ will have live coverage on-air and on our Facebook page during the event.

MARINETTE, WI (WTAQ) - Charges have been filed against a Crivitz man for allegedly plotting to kill his son and his son's wife.

76-year-old Robert Dettmering faces two counts of conspiracy to commit first-degree intentional homicide.

According to Marinette County District Attorney Allen Brey, the investigation began with a citizen's tip that Dettmering was trying to hire someone to commit the murders. An undercover agent from the Wisconsin Department of Justice's Division of Criminal Investigation posed as a hit man and met with Dettmering.

Prosecutors say the agent was given $1,000 from Detterming as a down payment for the killings.

Brey says Dettmering wanted to kill his son and his son's wife over a property dispute.

On Thursday, Marinette County officials confirmed they had raided Kranky Bob's Bar & Grill in Marinette County, as well as a home and a vehicle.

Report: Trump to Endorse Ryan in GB

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - Two sources tell Fox News that Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump will endorse House Speaker Paul Ryan during tonight's rally in Green Bay.

The Janesville Republican is facing a primary challenge from businessman Paul Nehlen in the state's 1st Congressional District. That election will take place on Tuesday.

Earlier this week, Trump's vice presidential selection Mike Pence endorsed Ryan with Trump's support. But Trump has maintained that he, "wasn't there yet," in endorsing Ryan.

Ryan's office has said the Speaker doesn't plan to attend the Trump rally.

FINAL PREPARATIONS FOR RALLY

Both statewide and national media are thrusting Green Bay into the political spotlight. The Republican Party of Brown County has previously said the Trump campaign expects 5,000 people to attend the rally at the KI Convention Center.

Lately, Trump's campaign speeches have been more stream of consciousness centered rather than offering specifics about their platform.

Another problem cited by top Wisconsin Republicans has been the lack of Trump targeting his Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton in the wake of last month's GOP National Convention.

In addition to Ryan, other top Republicans from the Badger State have said they will not attend Friday's rally. Those include Governor Scott Walker and U.S. Senator Ron Johnson.

WTAQ will have live coverage on-air, online and on our Facebook page starting at 7 p.m.

Emerald Ash Borer in Oshkosh

OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ) - The Wisconsin DNR says it has positively identified emerald ash borer (EAB) in Oshkosh for the first time.

The invasive species was found on a private property July 28 near the intersection of US 26 and I-41.

EAB has been found to be 100% fatal to untreated ash trees.

The DNR says this is a significant concern because there is a large number of ash trees within the community.

In August of 2013, presence of the EAB was found in the Town of Black Wolf and the Town of Nekimi, which prompted a quarantine of wood for Winnebago County.

Oshkosh says it has been proactive by systematically treating trees that are in good structural condition and removing others that are in poor condition.

The city says property owners can treat EAB by calling several local certified arborists in the area who can perform treatments to protect trees from the invasive species.

Since 2008, the city has not planted ash trees in preparation for EAB arrival.

MARINETTE, WI (WTAQ) - A Crivitz man accused of trying to hire a hit man to kill his son and daughter-in-law is being held on a $1 million cash bond.

76-year-old Robert Dettmering made an initial court appearance in Marinette County on Monday. A balance of that initial appearance will happen August 15, according to online court records.

The criminal complaint states that a man who occasionally works for Dettmering said Dettmering offered him $10,000 to shoot his son and son's wife, then burn the cabin containing their bodies.

The man refused, but told Dettmering he knew someone with the Hell's Angels motorcycle gang who would do it.

An undercover agent from the state Department of Justice's Division of Criminal Investigation posed as a hit man and met with Dettmering. Prosecutors say Dettmering gave the agent $1,000 as a down payment for the murders.
