Green Bay, WI (WTAQ) - A 32 year old Neenah man is in the Brown County jail, facing charges that could send him to prison for decades. Phillip Michael Sendek is alleged to have had inappropriate sexual contact with a 5 year old girl, the daughter of his former girlfriend.

The victim lives with her mother in a Ledgeview apartment. The criminal complaint says the mother had gone out to the store one day in late October and left her daughter with Sendek. It was after that her daughter began acting out at school, getting very angry and having panic attacks.

SHAWANO COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) - Investigators with the Shawano County Sheriff's Office say they want to see the complete video and want to interview the person who allegedly shot it before they take any action against the owners of a mink farm.

The edited video seems to show instances of animal abuse at the Dillenburg Fur Farm in the Town of Belle Plaine.

The animal protection group PETA released the video earlier this week while calling for a criminal investigation. The partial video was apparently provided by someone who worked at Dillenburg Fur Farm.

According to the Shawano County Sheriff's Department, investigators conducted an extensive investigation that included enlisting the assistance of the Animal Health Section of the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, the Wisconsin DNR and a Wisconsin expert veterinarian on mink farms.

On Thursday, a detective and deputy, who's been trained to investigate animal abuse allegations, went with the expert veterinarian to meet with the business owner and inspect the farm. At the time, Shawano County Sheriff's officials say no violations were seen.

Officials say the investigation is ongoing and they're looking for more information, provide a copy of the full video and make the witness available for questioning.

Muslim Workers Say New Ariens Prayer Policy Forcing Them Out Of A Job

BRILLION, WI (WTAQ) - Muslim workers at a business in Calumet County say they're out of a job.

The 53 employees say the new prayer-on-the-job policy at Ariens Manufacturing will force them to leave.

Before the new policy went into effect, the Somali Muslims were able to leave the production line twice-a-shift to pray two of the five prayers their faith requires each day.

The company says it is asking them to pray during scheduled breaks because its manufacturing environment doesn't allow for unscheduled stops.

The workers say praying only during a meal break goes against Muslim practice.

According to the Equal Opportunity Employment Commission (EEOC), "an employer doesn't have to accommodate an employee's religious beliefs if doing so would cause hardship to the employer."

“We are open to any of the employees returning to work under the new policy or will look for openings in shifts that do not coincide with prayer time,” according to a statement from Ariens provided to WBAY-TV in Green Bay. “We respect their faith, and we respect their decision regardless of their choice to return to work or not.”

Ten of those workers, according to Ariens, have indicated they want to stay in their current jobs under the new policy.

IT'S A MAD, MAD, MAD GAME: Packers Lose Wild OT Playoff Game to Cardinals 26-20

0
0

GLENDALE, AZ (WTAQ) - Saturday night's NFC Divisional Playoff game between the Green Bay Packers and the Arizona Cardinals will go down as one of the craziest games in NFL history.

Cardinals' receiver Larry Fitzgerald's 5-yard touchdown catch on a screen pass on the first possession of overtime closed the book on the Packers season, 26-20. It sends Arizona to the NFC Championship Game next Sunday.

Fitzgerald had a performance for the ages, which was capped by the game-winning screen pass from Carson Palmer. He finished the night with 8 catches for 176 yards and that final score. Fitzgerald's 75 yard reception on the first play of the extra frame set up that play.

All this came on the heels of likely the most improbable game-tying drives in playoff history.

The Packers were down to their last gasp, 4th-and-20 from their own 4-yard line with 55 seconds left and no timeouts. Down 20-13, Aaron Rodgers throws a Hail Mary pass to receiver Jeff Janis for 60 yards. It gave them a chance to try another Hail Mary throw, which also found its way into the hands of Janis for a 41-yard TD pass to send the game into overtime.

It was the Miracle in Motown -- but twice as big.

The Packers had a fresh start, leaving behind the missed opportunities and pass interference calls which weren't made.

But then the coin flip wasn't a flip at all, and when the simple task was done a second time, the Cardinals won, got the ball and never looked back.

Rodgers finished the game 24-of-44 for 261 yards with 2 touchdowns and one interception. Janis caught 7 balls for 145 yards and both of those scores.

Eddie Lacy ran 12 times for 89 yards, and Mason Crosby kicked a pair of field goals in the losing effort.

RUSHFORD, WI (WTAQ) - Authorities will continue the search for a missing Omro man last seen on Friday night in Winnebago County.

The Winnebago County Sheriff's dive team began the search around 11:40 a.m. Saturday after authorities found tracks leading toward the Fox River near Delhi Road in Rushford. Authorities say the 39-year-old Omro man was part of a group that was vacationing in the area.

Authorities say the man was staying at a cabin along the river when he went looking for his dog.

"At this time, we are not certain if the dog went in first or the individual,"Lt. Lori Seiler told FOX 11.

With the biiterly cold temperatures Sunday, rescue crews had to take extra precautions to stay warm.

Seiler said the water conditions also pose a problem because some areas of the river are frozen, where others are not.

"The currents are really fast, which is keeping portions of the river open at this time,"said Lt. Seiler.

The name of the missing man has not yet been released.

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - Extremely dangerous cold outside to start your Monday.

"We've got windchills between minus 20 to minus 30 degree this morning" Rich Mamorosch, with the National Weather Service office in Ashwaubenon....says the cold isn't something to take litely.

Unprotected skin can fall victim to frostbite in 30 minutes or less in these conditions. Wear a hat, gloves, scarf across your face and stay outside as little as possible.

An autopsy is scheduled for today, to determine if a 21-year-old Oshkosh woman died from the cold. Authorities say a business security camera caught the woman collapsing in front of a Milwaukee home early yesterday morning -- when it was one-below with a wind chill of minus-20. The medical examiner's office says the unidentified woman had left a house party, and was not dressed for the weather.

Mamorosch says conditions will ease a little as the day moves along and a bit of a warm-up is coming later in the week. "this will be the last morning of the really cold windchills for the foreseeable future"

Roads, parking lots and sidewalks are slick too as salt is in-effective in melting ice in the extreme cold.

Packers Season Over, Titletown District Plans Move Forward

0

Green Bay, WI (WTAQ) - While the Packers are done on the field for the year, the team's Titletown District continues to move forward. Significant action is expected this week.

That includes a proposed change in state law that would allow the development west of Lambeau Field to get extra liquor licenses. A bill written by State Representative David Steffen, could help.

"Well (the Packers) haven't said specifically what type of restaurants, what type of bars, that sort of thing, are going to be requiring liquor licenses," said Steffen. "But they need them."

The state Assembly plans to vote Tuesday on a bipartisan bill to make that happen. The major anchors of the development, the Lodge Kohler and Hinterland brewery, would already qualify for a liquor license because of exemptions for large restaurants, hotels and breweries.

But Steffen says the development isn't going to turn into a bar district.

"The success of that project needs to be diverse and it will be diverse," said Steffen. "It will be a mixed use. You're going to have some residential. You're going to have family-style activity."

Meanwhile, the Village of Ashwaubenon is planning an open house Thursday evening on the Titletown District. At 6 p. m. at the Ashwaubenon High School Auditorium, the Packers will give a presentation and answer some questions.

There are some small areas of the development that would require zoning changes. The public review and approval of those zoning changes would happen in the weeks following the public open house.

National Muslim Group Asks Ariens For Flexibility

WASHINGTON D.C. (WTAQ) - The Council on American-Islamic Relations has asked a Wisconsin firm to change its mind about a new policy that limits the times when Muslims can pray at work.

The Ariens Company of Brillion, which makes snowblowers and lawn mowers, told workers last week to use their two scheduled daily breaks for prayers.

Media reports say 53 workers are affected, 10 have agreed to the new policy, and the others left but can come back if they agree to pray at certain times.

Ibrahim Hooper of the American-Islamic Council says the workers need to pray at certain times like sunrise and sunset which change every day.

Ariens says its manufacturing environment does not allow for unscheduled production breaks -- and the company has met with its Somalian employee group to better understand its members' needs.

MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) - Authorities have identified the body of an Oshkosh woman found dead outdoors in bitterly cold temperatures in Milwaukee.

According to the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's office, the body of 21-year-old Elizabeth K. Luebke was found on a sidewalk in the city's Riverwest neighborhood around 9 a.m. Sunday.

Luebke was in town for a concert and then went to a house party afterward, investigators say. They also say Luebke was drunk at the party and left sometime during the night for an unknown reason.

The area where Luebke was found was about a block or two away from where the party took place.

Officers say a video camera at a business across the street from where Luebke's body was found recorded video of her walking. It showed she collapsed around 4:25 a.m. She continued moving until around 7 a.m.

Authorities say there were no obvious signs of trauma or injury.

Luebke was not dressed for the weather, as she was wearing a tank top and stockings under her shorts. A sweater was found on the ground next to her body.

The temperatures that night fell below zero.

An autopsy is expected to be done Monday.

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - Green Bay's Southwest High School received a number of private donations in order to renovate its auditorium, which will reopen this summer.

According to the Green Bay Area Public School District, the expanded and renovated facility will be renamed the Marsch Family Auditorium in honor of the Thomas and Jean Marsch family. The family has requested that the amount of its donation not be disclosed.

Among the plans for the upgraded auditorium, the seating capacity will be expanded from 794 to 860; the auditorium will be repainted and new carpeting will be installed; the lobby will feature TV screens, artwork and seating; lighting in the facility will be converted to more efficient LED; and there will be improved audio visual capabilities including live video streaming.

"We are thrilled to see the efforts and generosity of many of Southwest's faithful come to fruition with the renovation of the Southwest High School auditorium," said Southwest High School Music Parents Association President Dave Pisani, in a news release. "We look forward to the renovation's completion this spring and cannot wait to have a facility whose beauty and functionality matches the excellence of Southwest's students and staff."

"This renovation gives us a state-of-the-art facility that is conducive to teaching, learning, collaborating, and performing and will allow our students to receive a first-rate education," said Brandon Rockstroh, Southwest's director of choral music.

For now, school leaders are taking donations for naming rights to individual seats, rows and sections, along with signs in the lobby and auditorium.

The total cost of the project is $240,000. School officials say the district will provide the carpeting, paint and labor for the project, but the rest will be paid for with private donations.
