OCONTO, WI (WTAQ) - Oconto County authorities have arrested a Pulaski man who's accused of hitting and killing a pedestrian Monday night on County Road S.

During a press conference Wednesday, Sheriff Mike Jansen announced that an anonymous tip led deputies to 35-year-old Joe Anderson.

"The caller stated that Joe Anderson was looking for parts for his truck, a white GMC Safari pickup," said Jansen. "He had damage to a fender, mirror, his hood and a blinker because he had hit a deer the prior evening."

Jansen says deputies went to Anderson's home, interviewed him and took him into custody. Anderson's pickup was also taken as evidence with damage consistent with the evidence recovered at the scene.

Anderson was booked into the Oconto County Jail on charges of hit-and-run causing death and negligent homicide with a motor vehicle. He's due to make a court appearance next week.

Jansen also identified the victim as 51-year-old George Birr, who was living with a relative in the Sobieski area.

"George took numerous walks, and it appears he was walking from his sister's residence into Sobieski," says Jansen. "He was on the correct side of the road facing traffic as he was walking."

Investigators believe the crash took place sometime between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. Monday.

The investigation is ongoing and Jansen says Anderson may have been drinking earlier that evening.

OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ) - Winnebago County prosecutors have concluded that a sheriff's deputy and an Oshkosh police officer were justified in shooting and injuring a man in the Town of Algoma back on December 10.

During a news conference Wednesday, Winnebago County District Attorney Christian Gossett said Deputy Kyle Schoonover and Officer Robert Kraemer were the officers who shot Richard Klemz.

Authorities were initially called to a domestic disturbance involving Klemz in the Town of Algoma, near Oshkosh, around 3:20 p.m. on Dec. 10. Winnebago County Sheriff John Matz says deputies and Oshkosh police officers caught up with Klemz at the corner of Oakwood and Witzel Avenues, near the Algoma town hall.

Matz says Klemz rammed a squad car at the intersection, then drove into the town hall parking lot and rammed another vehicle.

"Mr. Klemz redirected his vehicle towards officers on two separate occasions," said Gossett. "In the second instance, Mr. Klemz nearly struck Deputy Schoonover and was simultaneously fired upon."

Schoonover and Kraemer fired 13 shots altogether.

The 29-year-old Schoonover and his K-9 partner, Tim, were injured when Klemz's vehicle slammed into them. Both continue to recover from their injuries. Schoonover is a six-year veteran of the department and is on administrative assignment.

Kraemer, who's been with the Oshkosh Police Department for 8 years, is on administrative leave, according to Police Chief Scott Greuel.

Matz explained that a 911 caller told emergency dispatchers that Klemz wanted to be killed by police.

Gossett said he expected to file charges against Klemz later Wednesday or Monday.

MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - State Assembly Republican John Nygren is not finished with his campaign to fight heroin abuse, and the prescription drug abuse that often leads to it.

The Marinette lawmaker tells FOX 11 he'll propose four more bills in the New Year for his "HOPE" Agenda, spurred by his daughter's previous heroin addiction.

One of the new bills would increase state grant funds for local treatment programs by $2 million a year.

The other bills would make it a crime to use masking agents to falsify drug tests -- reduce red tape when treatment centers try to get re-certified -- and create new state guidelines for prescribing controlled substances.

Nygren's first six anti-heroin bills were signed into law last year, and four others are currently making their way through the Legislature.

MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - Madison lawyer Dean Strang says hundreds of people have contacted him since Netflix started running its ten-part documentary about convicted killer Steven Avery.

Strang helped represent the Manitowoc County man when he was found guilty in the shooting, burning, and raping of Teresa Halbach a decade ago.

In the taping of an interview show for WKOW-TV, Strang says he lost the case but he was never convinced of Avery's guilt.

Producers Moira Demos and Laura Ricciardi said they made the series "Making a Murderer" because they were interested in Avery's 2003 release from prison for a sexual assault he never committed -- followed by his murder arrest two-and-a-half years later.

Observers say Avery was the first to be freed by DNA evidence for one crime, only to have DNA return him to prison for another crime.

GLENDALE, AZ (WTAQ) - If Sunday's game were a test to see how the Green Bay Packers stand up against one of the best teams in the NFC, they would've failed in all subjects after a 38-8 loss at the hands of the Arizona Cardinals.

The Packers were out-manned, out-gunned and just plainly outplayed by a Cardinals team which earned a first-round bye in the playoffs for the first time since 1990.

Green Bay (10-5) turned the ball over four times, were outgained by more than 200 yards and Aaron Rodgers was sacked 8 times.

Rodgers finished up 15-of-28 for 151 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. Running back Eddie Lacy scored the Packers lone TD on a 28 yard reception.

Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer was 18-of-27 for 265 yards with 2 TDs and one interception. Arizona's (13-2) top ranked defense returned 2 Packer fumbles for scores as well.

The Packers will host the rival Minnesota Vikings next Sunday with the NFC North Division title on the line.

WATCH SHOCK REPORT: Several Green Bay Packers players linked to doping ring

UNDATED (WTAQ) - As the Green Bay Packers make their push towards the playoffs, an undercover investigative report apparently links several players to a major doping ring involving an Indianapolis-based clinic.

The report from Al-Jazeera is due to air on Sunday night, but the contents of that report and the early fallout have gone viral.

You can watch the report above, along with a response released by the source of the story Charles Sly.

The report, which largely centers on Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning's alleged use of human growth hormone (HGH), also names several Packers players.

According to the report, a hormone supplement deemed "steroidal in nature" called Delta-2 was supplied in a program designed by a pharmacist based in the Bahamas

"The report does not link Manning to Delta-2, but Sly and Robertson name multiple football players as customers, including Green Bay Packers linebacker Mike Neal. Neal, Sly says, connected him with multiple teammates, including defensive end Julius Peppers.

Sly also says that he provided Clay Matthews, Green Bay’s Pro Bowl linebacker, with the prescription painkiller Percocet to help him deal with pain before at least one game. He also brags in one undercover video that Matthews texted him in an attempt to obtain Toradol, a powerful painkiller that is banned in many countries but not in the United States."

Multiple sources have denied this report, including Manning, while others did not respond to requests for comment on this report.
