Green Bay, WI (WTAQ) - Aldo Leopold parents and community leaders met in the school's library Monday evening in hopes of solving speeding issues on Monroe Avenue.

The traffic issues near the Kindergarten through 8th grade school were magnified last month when a car hit and killed a dog near a crosswalk.

When children are walking to and from Aldo Leopold, drivers on Monroe Avenue are supposed to be going no more than 15 miles an hour.

Police and local and state road leaders were among those at the meeting, listening to suggestions and concerns.

Among the suggested solutions were portable speed bumps, radar signs, larger signs, and more crossing guards.

But the most common solution suggested was enforcement.

Local leaders say they'll now use everyone's comments to come up with a long-term solution in hopes of having drivers slow down.

TOWN OF MOUNT MORRIS, WI (WTAQ) - Authorities in Waushara County are asking the public for help finding out who fired what's believed to have been a "stray round" that killed a man Monday.

Waushara County Sheriff Jeff Nett says 56-year-old Gregory Welk of Mount Morris was hunting on his property along 24th Road, south of Brown Deer Avenue around 4:20 p.m. The location is north of Redgranite.

County investigators teamed up with the Wisconsin DNR to search the land Tuesday, but Nett says they "didn't really come up with anything."

Authorities, along with area hunters, want to know who else was in the area Monday afternoon.

"It's really odd that something like this could happen that this stray bullet just comes right through the trees like that," Donald Taylor, a hunter from Redgranite, told FOX 11.

Welk was wearing blaze orange, and according to Nett, a bullet hit Welk in the chest while he was walking about 40 feet in from the road. Then Welk called his wife and 911. Before Welk died at a hospital, he said he'd seen some people in the area.

"We did have a report from the victim that he saw two people get into a darker colored pickup truck," said Nett.

Welk said the truck was a model from the late-1990s to early-2000s.

"He saw somebody drive away, whether these people are the ones that fired the shot are not, we don't know," added Nett.

Welk was a father and he owned an area construction company.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Waushara County Sheriff's Office at (920) 787-3321.

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - Driving home for Thanksgiving may not be easy.

The National Weather Service says a cold front is expected to reach Wisconsin just in time for sleet and snow on Thursday morning in the central part of the state. 1 to 3 inches of snow are possible in the north.

Southern Wisconsin might get so much rain on the holiday, that minor street flooding could occur on Thanksgiving night. The Weather Service says certain rivers could overflow into Black Friday and the weekend.

Forecasters say the track of the storm remains uncertain.

Rain is predicted in Green Bay for Thursday night's Packer-Bear game and Brett Favre ceremony. Ticket brokers say the weather is driving down their prices.

Meanwhile, all Wisconsin motorists are getting a pre-holiday price break at the pump.

The AAA says the average statewide price of regular unleaded dropped just below $2 a gallon Tuesday morning.

MENASHA, WI (WTAQ) - A Menasha man is facing more than two dozen charges after he allegedly sexually assaulted a girl in his neighborhood and took inappropriate photos of her.

On Monday, 53-year-old Derek Rose was charged with a total of 27 counts. Rose is due for his initial court appearance in Winnebago County Wednesday.

The 27 counts include 21 for possession of child pornography and 2 counts each of child enticement, child sexual exploitation and first-degree sexual assault of a child.

Investigators uncovered various child porn images on his computer and cell phone, according to the criminal complaint.

Police found correspondence during a search of phone records where Rose allegedly talks about his encounters with the girl. A search warrant allowed police to determine that six photos of the girl, now age 9, were taken at his Tayco Street home.

Officers spoke with the girl, who lives in Rose's neighborhood. She says Rose touched her inappropriately.

"(The victim) stated that this occurred in defendant's garage while he was taking pictures of her sliding down the hood of his car and once in the backyard when they were having movies on movie night. (The victim) said that 'garage nights were nights that the defendant would project movies onto the garage for the kids and families in the neighborhood to watch," the complaint states.

Only one victim is identified in the complaint but in online comments about various photos, Rose suggests "he personally knows the girls," the complaint says.

The complaint does not cite any statements from Rose from interviews with police, although in an email with an undercover officer, he describes his situation.

"I'm the beloved 'grandfather figure' to all the neighborhood kids. And all the little girls have crushes on me. It's a kind of heaven. Makes up for the fact there isn't any pervy stuff to do here, like in my precious big cities," he wrote.

UN4GIVABLE: Bears stun Packers in Favre-honored game 17-13

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - After the final pass thrown by Aaron Rodgers sailed through the back of the end zone deflected off the hands of Davante Adams, the only thing left was the silence of Lambeau Field as the Chicago Bears upset the Green Bay Packers 17-13 Thursday night.

Rodgers, who hurt his left arm in the second half, finished a disappointing 22-of-43 for 202 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception.

Running back Eddie Lacy ran for 105 yards on 17 carries and caught 4 balls for another 34 yards on the lone Packer TD. But Lacy also fumbled, which led to one of the Bears (5-6) two touchdowns on the night.

Bears quarterback Jay Cutler looked less like the memes which litter the Internet, and more like the engineer of a well-oiled offense. Cutler was 19-of-31 for 200 yards and a touchdown.

The Bears overcame 12 penalties on the night, along with the pomp and circumstance of Packers Hall-of-Famer Brett Favre's return to have his number 4 retired during a halftime ceremony. It also saw a special appearance by Hall-of-Fame quarterback Bart Starr, who's battled serious health problems, and an emotional embrace between Favre and Starr.

The Packers (7-4) have now lost 4 of their last 5 games.

Get a full recap of the game with Mark Daniels and Matt Z on the 5th Quarter Monday at 5 p.m. exclusively on 1360/97.5 WTAQ News Talk Sports.

APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) - Fox Valley officials are conducting a study of a four-and-a-half mile stretch of West College Avenue from downtown Appleton to Appleton International Airport.

Traffic on that stretch of road is particularly bad each year on Black Friday. One of the busiest intersections in the Fox Valley is where College meets Nicolet Road, just west of Interstate 41.

The East Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission is looking for changes which could be made to make that area safer.

Residents have until the end of the year to give online feedback, with results published next spring.
