De Pere, WI (WTAQ) - De Pere police are investigating an attempted child abduction on the east side of the city.

A 14-year-old girl says she was walking in the 1700 block of Merrill Street, which is near the high school, just before 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, when a man tried to get her into his vehicle.

She wasn't hurt and was able to run away.

The suspect is described as a white man, about 60 to 65 years old.

He has white hair, a scruffy beard and a raspy voice.

Officials say he was driving a tan or champagne colored single cab truck that had rust on the wheel wells on the driver's side.

Anyone with information is asked to call Green Bay area Crime Stoppers at 920-432-7867

Major development proposed for Green Bay's eastside

Green Bay, WI (WTAQ) - Major development plans were revealed Wednesday evening for Green Bay's east side.

Festival Foods and Kwik Trip have a plan to build a supermarket and a convenience store on University Avenue.

Both stores would be in the 2400 block of University Avenue.

The plan also calls for removing part of University Avenue, and making it into a parking lot.

The Festival store would be slightly larger than its Bellevue location.

It would employ about 240 people, 72 full-time and 160 part-time.

But Mark Ernst, a business owner on University Avenue, doesn't think the plan has been well thought out.

He's concerned about increased traffic and the survival of established businesses in the area.

Never the less, the goal is to get city council approval this fall, break ground next spring, and open in the fall of 2016.

OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ) - The head of the Oshkosh Corporation says the U.S. military might not be the only customer for its new grade of light tactical vehicles.

Charles Szews says his firm will start marketing the product to our allies -- and there could be a significant demand.

On Tuesday, Oshkosh beat out three others to win a $6.7 billion contract for an initial run of 17,000 Joint Light Tactical Vehicles that will replace the basic Humvee.

The Army eventually expects to buy 50,000 vehicles, and the Marines plan to get 5,500. The Oshkosh contract could eventually stretch to $30 billion, the highest in the history of the long-time military vehicle maker.

The deal guarantees up to a quarter-century of work for thousands of Oshkosh employees and related parts' suppliers.

Oshkosh showed off a prototype of the new product to local officials Wednesday.

NEW YORK (WTAQ) - Letroy Guion has been suspended without pay for the first three games of the 2015 season for his offseason arrest, losing his appeal in the case.

Guion was notified of the 3 game ban this week.

He was suspended by the league after an offseason arrest during which police seized more than $190,000 in cash, 357 grams of marijuana and an unloaded gun in his truck.

The Packers have been preparing themselves for a suspension ever since his arrest but were hoping for only a game or two after Guion paid a $5,000 fine in a plea deal to avoid prosecution.

Guion will lose nearly a half-million dollars in salary. He is projected as a starting defensive end for the Packers.

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - Of Green Bay's five starting offensive linemen, three of them are expected to miss Saturday nights preseason home game against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lambeau Field.

David Bakhtiari remains sidelined with a knee injury, Josh Sitton has been out all week with a knee injury and T.J. Lang has been sidelined with the concussion he received in last week's game at Pittsburgh.

It means quarterback Aaron Rodgers will play very little, if at all on Saturday.

With Scott Tolzien sidelined with a concussion, the Packers will have two quarterbacks left. Former Whitewater star Matt Blanchard and the Packers' 5th-round draft pick, Brett Hundley out of UCLA are expected to split playing time on Saturday night.

Coach Mike McCarthy said both will likely get a chance to face Philadelphia's top defense, depending of course how long the Eagles play their one's.

After Jordy Nelson was lost for the season with an ACL injury, Aaron Rodgers told reporters Wednesday that he's gotten enough work in to be ready for the September 13th opener at Chicago.

APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) - Officials with Marcus Theaters say that Appleton's Valley Value Cinema will close after Labor Day.

The last business day for the cinema at 2165 S. Memorial Drive will be on September 7.

Officials cite the limited availability of 35 mm film in the market. With the venue not bringing in enough attendance, the cost to upgrade the theater with digital projection technology would be too expensive.

The 14 employees at Valley Value will be offered jobs at Marcus' other theaters in the area.

People can still enjoy movies at the Appleton East and Hollywood Cinemas locations.

Green Bay, WI (WTAQ) - 8th District Congressman Reid Ribble moves out of the U-S capital, and behind the counter at a Green Bay Kwik Trip.

He's not demoted....but is doing some research on proposed legislation that would impact your financial security.

Places where you swipe a card to pay for gas can be the target for identity thieves..

He thinks we're moving to a place where a PIN and chip would be required when you fill up.

There's also legislation that would require calorie labels on the sandwiches and snacks you buy at convenience stores.

All the way to things like pickles or mustard.

Ribble says that might be going too far.

And it shouldn't be up to the stores to list the calories for condiments.

The National Association of Convenience Stores says stores, that sell fuel, serve about 11-hundred customers a day.

In 2013, the industry hit $695.5 billion in sales.

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - Fans filling Lambeau Field won't see much of Aaron Rodgers tonight in the third NFL preseason game for 2015.

Three starters on the offensive line aren't playing against the Philadelphia Eagles and coach Mike McCarthy won't want to risk his franchise quarterback.

Eagles quarterback Sam Bradford may play more, just because he's missed so much time the last few seasons. Philadelphia coach Chip Kelly says, if it rains, Bradford may spend more time on the sidelines.

Kickoff for the game against the Philadelphia Eagles is 7:00 p.m. Packers Preview begins at 5 p.m. on 1360/97.5 WTAQ News Talk Sports.

There is a slight chance of rain in Green Bay and the temperature should be in the upper 60s at kickoff.
