Jury clears Outagamie County judge in office building lawsuit

MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) - A jury has cleared a circuit judge, after he was sued for an alleged breach involving the ownership of an office building in Appleton.

Tracy Barnett sued Outagamie County Circuit Judge Mark McGinnis, who was acquitted after a two-week civil trial in Milwaukee.

McGinnis was a private attorney when he joined Barnett and another man in a group that borrowed over $1 million to buy the building. Trial testimony indicated that it was a troubled loan.

McGinnis later assumed total ownership, worked out a new arrangement on the loan, and leased the building to the state Corrections Department.

In a 2011 lawsuit, Barnett said McGinnis had a conflict of interest -- because he was an investor in the building, while serving as an attorney for the business who encouraged her to give up her share without telling her that he leased it to the state.

Barnett failed to win any of her 3 civil claims.

The case was moved to Milwaukee County after all of Appleton's other judges refused to get involved to avoid a conflict. McGinnis because a circuit judge in 2005.

Green Bay, WI (WTAQ) - We're less than a week away from the 39th Bellin Run.

And while runners and walkers are gearing up for the 10-k challenge....what some say is the backbone of the run's success is also coming together.

Up to 18-thousand people will be pounding the pavement on Saturday. And their trip through parts of Green Bay and Allouez would be more difficult without the volunteers along the course.

Selys Perry is the Bellin Run volunteer co-ordinator.

She says about 15-hundred volunteers become part of the staff.  Some come back year after year to help out.

Some of the volunteers are Bellin staffers, some are middle and high schools students, and some are the people who live along the course.

And they can still use your help.

You can go to bellinrun-dot-com and click on the volunteer tab for more information.

There's a particular need for help at water stations and course corners.

Bellin Run brings out big corporate numbers

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - Local runners and walkers are getting ready to kick it into high gear for this Saturday's 39th Belllin Run....and a big part of the participation is the numbers from the corporate world.

Like the race itself, the "Corporate Challenge" has been growing right along with the Bellin Run.

Assistant race director Linda Maxwell says they started with 28 companies.....now, there's more than 270 taking part.

Maxwell says that pencils out to about 7 thousand runners and walkers who've signed on through work.

The Bellin Run works through corporate leaders who talk up the race and get employees excited and involved.

Maxwell says the beauty of it, and a part of the growing numbers, is the corporate challenge isn't about beating another company's time.....it's just getting employees, no matter the skill level, to join in.

Once people realize it's not a competition with other runners and the time clock, she says the average person is more apt to sign on.

The bottom line, in addition to healthier employees, is a reduction in company paid insurance rates. Corporate Challenge participants also have speciality apparel, training schedules, team photos and more.
