Deep freeze moving into Wisconsin

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - Wind chill factors were in the minus-teens in far northern Wisconsin at mid-day, and the rest of the state is about to get the same treatment.

The National Weather Service says a cold high pressure system from Canada is bringing clear skies and arctic temperatures to Wisconsin.

No cold advisories were issued by late Monday morning -- but the Weather Service says to stay tuned.

Forecasts call for wind chills down to 20-below Monday night in southwest Wisconsin, and 15 to 25-below for most other parts of the state.

Actual temperatures at 11 a.m. Monday ranged from zero at Superior and Cumberland to 27 in Racine. They're expected to range from 1 to 9-below by Tuesday morning.

Places along Lake Michigan will have the warmest readings, if you could call it that, with lows of 1 to 4-below.

The mercury might not hit 20-above again until New Year's Day, when the clouds are expected to return. Our next chance of snow is on Friday.

NFL suspends Lions' DT Suh for stomp on Aaron Rodgers' leg

NEW YORK (WTAQ) - ESPN says Detroit defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh will be suspended for the Lions' Wild Card playoff game at Dallas on Sunday.

That's after he stepped on Packers' quarterback Aaron Rodgers in Sunday's regular season finale at Lambeau Field.

Suh backed up two steps after a play, and he stepped on Rodgers' left leg -- very close to where Rodgers aggravated his strained calf in the first half.

Lions' coach Jim Caldwell said Monday that his personal views didn't matter -- and it was up to the NFL to rule, which it reportedly did Monday.

The Packers are not trying to add any vocal fuel to the fire.

Packers' defensive tackle Letroy Guion said he could not remember ever stepping on an offensive player the way Suh did -- still, Guion said he didn't want to pass judgment.

Fullback John Kuhn said he's obviously biased in favor of Rodgers -- but he said his teammates still didn't want to go into it publicly. In Kuhn's words, "Our job is to protect -- so that's all it comes down to."

SHAWANO, WI (WTAQ) - Firefighters now say a Shawano restaurant is a total loss after a fire.

The fire started around 1:30 Tuesday morning, at Anello’s Torch Lite on East Green Bay Street.

Shawano County Sheriff’s officials say no one was hurt.

There’s no word how the fire started.

Fire crews have been using a backhoe to pull the building apart and look for hot spots.

Water from the firefighting effort has been freezing to the sidewalk and road, making it slippery for firefighters. Crews have been putting down salt and sand for traction.

Fire officials say the restaurant’s owners live next door and also run a small petting zoo. They say they believe all of the animals are accounted for.

Man behind Aaron Rodgers' beard tug garners national attention

MARATHON COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) - Santa Claus was too busy to give the Green Bay Packers an undefeated home record this year.

But another man with a long beard might be the good luck charm.

Jeremy Wilcox works as a communications technician on the sidelines during Packers' home games at Lambeau Field.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers has given the red nine-inch beard a gentle tug at each home game since early in the season -- and some Cheeseheads believe it had something to do with the Pack going 8-0 at Lambeau in the regular season.

Wilcox has been deluged with interview requests after national TV viewers saw Rodgers giving the beard a tug during last Sunday's home win over Detroit. That was the game in which Rodgers re-injured his left leg, dramatically returned, and engineered two touchdown drives to help the Packers win the NFC North Division and a first-round playoff bye.

Wilcox calls the beard-tugging just "guys having fun."

Green Bay will host a divisional round game on January 11th.
