OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ) - The Oshkosh Corporation said its quarterly earnings more than doubled from a year ago, thanks in part to a higher demand for its aerial lifts and commercial vehicles.

The company that's best known for its military vehicles reports a net income of $77.5 million from July through September. That's up from $36 million a year ago, during the final quarter of the company's fiscal year.

Stockholders saw their earnings jump from 41 cents a share to 93 cents over the past year. Also, Oshkosh announced a 13 percent increase in its dividends, to 17 cents a share. That will be given December second to stockholders on record as of November 18th.

Oshkosh officials said its access lift equipment and commercial segments surpassed last year's record operating income margins.

Defense vehicle sales dropped 44 percent in the past year, due a scale back of U.S. operations in the Middle East.

For the fiscal year as a whole, Oshkosh reports a 2.1 percent drop in its net income to $309 million.

MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) - The Pulaski Community School District says they suspended several boys' soccer players before Friday's state semifinal game.

In a statement from superintendent Milt Thompson, the team suspended "approximately 8" players following an incident Thursday night at the team hotel in Milwaukee.

“It’s a major disappointment,” Thompson said per FOX 11. “When you have a team that goes to state, that’s quite an honor. You trust that the players themselves see it as a rare opportunity and will focus on the task at hand and do the best they can on the athletic field, maybe bring back a trophy.

Thompson said he's uncomfortable at this point saying exactly what the students did wrong. He lauded Pulaski’s principal, athletic director and boys' soccer coach for acting swiftly. Thompson said there still may be school-related punishments for the students.

“I’m very pleased with what the adults did in proactively addressing this,” said Thompson. “I know there would’ve been people who said, ‘The only thing that matters is the game.’ I’m very proud of what our people did.”

Pulaski, who was making their first-ever state appearance, lost the semifinal game to Brookfield East 4-0.

“To see under those circumstances, to see anyone make a poor decision that would affect their ability to do this, not only for the community but for themselves, it’s disappointing.”

Weather not expected to keep Wisconsinites from voting Tuesday

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - Voters cannot use the weather as an excuse for staying home Tuesday.

The National Weather Service says nobody in Wisconsin will have to trudge through snow and ice, with temperatures well above freezing.

It's supposed to rain later Monday and Monday night, as a new cold front moves in.

Forecasters say there might be a few lingering showers Tuesday morning -- but Election Day is supposed to be a dry day for the most part, with highs ranging from the mid-40's to the low 50's statewide.

We mention the Election Day weather because both major candidates for governor say their chances of winning will hinge on how many of their voters they can get to the polls.

A statewide turnout of 56.5 percent is predicted by the Government Accountability Board. The "S" word is not mentioned in the forecast until well after the election.

The Weather Service said we could see a mix of rain and snow on Wednesday night into Thursday. There's also a chance of snow on Friday, when cooler highs near 40 are expected.

Judge okays Kinnard Farms expansion in Kewaunee County

KEWAUNEE, WI (WTAQ) - An administrative law judge has approved an expansion of a large dairy farm in Kewaunee County, as long as the state keeps a closer eye on groundwater.

The Midwest Environmental Advocates helped nearby residents challenge the state's approval of a wastewater discharge permit, due to concerns about groundwater pollution.

The permit allows Kinnard Farms to expand its operation to 6,200 cows.

Judge Jeffrey Boldt said Kinnard must install at least 6 monitoring wells. At least two must be put in fields where manure will be spread.

Kewaunee County has areas of very thin topsoil on top of fractured bedrock -- and those spots are quite susceptible to groundwater contamination.

Boldt said 30 percent of the county's private water wells were tested, and half had contaminants like E-coli and nitrates. He said the DNR needs to use its "clear" regulatory powers to enhance its ability to prevent further groundwater pollution.

The DNR recently said its permit programs meet what a spokesman called "current" legal requirements.

That was after the Environmental Advocates and 5 similar groups asked the federal EPA to step in last month, and investigate Kewaunee County's groundwater pollution.
