RIVER FALLS, WI (WTAQ) - Parts of Wisconsin can expect one more hot day before a major cool down Wednesday.

Highs close to 90 are expected in the south, and the 80's everywhere else. The humidity will remain high, and so will the heat index in a lot of places.

Northwest Wisconsin was the hottest Monday, as expected.

Officials said it felt like 104 degrees in River Falls. Other heat indices were 101 at Hudson, 100 in Osceola, and 97 at Loyal in central Wisconsin.

A band of thunderstorms went through the far north overnight. Ashland had winds of 46 miles an hour, and three-quarter inch hail covered the ground about 20 miles east of Hayward in Sawyer County about 4 a.m. Tuesday.

Another round of thunderstorms is possible Tuesday afternoon, as a cold front sweeps across Wisconsin. Once it goes through, clear and much cooler weather is predicted for the next couple days.

Highs Wednesday are supposed to be in the 70's statewide -- and it could get down to the 40's by early Thursday morning.

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - Green Bay police say two people have been arrested and the search is on for a third suspect after a gathering at an east side apartment.

Authorities say they were called around 3:55 a.m. Tuesday to 637 Lime Kiln Road.

Police Lt. Jeff Brester says a fight started between two roommates and an unidentified male that spilled outside. The unknown male threw a brick at one of the roommates and struck him in the mouth.

That roommate picked up the brick and threw it back at the unknown male, but missed and ended up striking an 18-year-old female neighbor. She was standing nearby and not involved in the incident.

"This female's boyfriend and the male that initially started the disturbance then beat up the person who accidentally struck the female with the landscaping block," says Lt. Brester.

The unidentified male pistol whipped one of the roommates with his pellet gun, partially ripping off his ear.

Police have arrested the two roommates, 18-year-old Victor Amador and 17-year-old Warren Peters.

Authorities are seeking charges of disorderly conduct, probation violation and underage drinking against Amador. Peters is facing charges of substantial battery, disorderly conduct, obstructing an officer, and underage drinking.

Brester says both Amador and Peters are refusing to talk with investigators and won't identify the third male involved. The two are gang members, and Brester says they had a relationship with the third male, but police don't believe this to be a gang-related incident.

Meantime, the 18-year-old female victim has a fractured skull and is in critical condition. The roommate and another person were also hurt in the melee.

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - Three people are facing multiple theft charges for allegedly stealing from over 40 vehicles in Green Bay's Astor neighborhood this past weekend.

According to police, the break-ins were reported in the area from E. Mason St. to Grignon St. and from S. Webster Ave. to the East River.

"The suspects stated during their interview that they just went through the neighborhood looking for unlocked vehicles," says Police Lt. Jeff Brester. "They would just start pulling car doors until they found a door that was open, and then they would go through the vehicle to see if they could steal anything."

Police arrested three people Sunday and Monday: 18-year-old Joseph Ray; 17-year-old Cameron Kellner; and 18-year-old Keng Yang. Brester says they all live close to the area of Green Bay where these break-ins took place.

There were some key pieces of evidence that helped catch these criminals, according to Brester. The security camera at Rachel Dean's home on S. Irwin Ave helped out, as did another woman's iPhone.

"She used her app 'Where's my iPhone' and it was able to give her a location of where her phone was," says Lt. Brester. "Officers went to that residence, ultimately recover the phone and he was arrested for stealing it."

That arrest and subsequent interviews led police to the other two suspects.

However out of the more than 40 vehicles broken into, just a dozen victims have come forward so far. People who believe something may be missing from their car can call Green Bay Police at (920) 448-3200.

ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ) - Just a day after the village of Ashwaubenon approved naming a street after Packers head coach Mike McCarthy, local officials unveiled one of the new street signs bearing the name "Mike McCarthy Way."

Among the dignitaries speaking during the ceremony outside of Green Bay Distillery were Village President Mike Aubinger, Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt and Packers President and CEO Mark Murphy.

McCarthy was emotional as he spoke in front of friends, family, media and members of the Green Bay Packers organization.

"I actually ride down Potts Avenue on a daily basis, so to pull up to this stadium and have the opportunity to coach here and now to be recognized...it's unique and it's uncomfortable," says McCarthy. "I'm gonna get razzed a lot about it, and I just have to roll with it. But for me personally it's something that'll be unique for my family and my kids."

The board unanimously approved renaming the section of Potts Avenue between Oneida Street and Ashland Avenue.

The Packers have agreed to negotiate covering some of the costs business will take on relabeling business cards and signs for the new street.

Aubinger says the cost to taxpayers will be about $1,000 to change the street signs. He says the new signs will go up when the phase-in period is finished in a few months.

APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) - A lawyer will spend at least 30 years in prison after an Outagamie County judge sentences him Wednesday for sexually assaulting and strangling his wife multiple times.

49-year-old David Dudas was convicted back in April of 30 charges filed against him. Dudas will also spend 10 years on supervised release and his law license has been suspended.

Police say Dudas' wife though she was going to die, accusing him of raping, beating and strangling her to the point where her face was covered with blood. However, Dudas claimed that the rough sex was consensual.

“This type of behavior is something that cannot be tolerated in our community,” Judge Tammy Jo Hock said, according to FOX 11, before handing down the 40 year sentence.

An emotionless Dudas did not wish to address the court during the sentencing hearing. Dudas’ attorney Stephen Hurley also declined to speak to the media.

Dudas’ wife and eldest sons, however, did make statements in court.

Gov. Walker requests FEMA disaster aid for record cold winter

MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - Governor Scott Walker has asked for federal disaster aid to help communities which had broken water mains and other damage from the record cold winter.

The state applied to the Federal Emergency Management Agency for over $11 million to repair public amenities.

The request covers 8 counties where damages exceeded the thresholds to qualify for FEMA grants. Those counties are Milwaukee, Kenosha, Fond du Lac, Winnebago, Wood, Marathon, Clark, and Chippewa counties.

Should the state's request be approved, Walker said more damage assessments would be performed to see if other counties could also get aid.

Initial reports showed that all but 3 of Wisconsin's 72 counties had a total of $25 million in damage to things like water pipes, water towers, and streets.

Walker said the severe cold "overwhelmed" many counties, cities, villages, and towns -- and the federal aid would help them cover their unexpected damages.

Wind chill factors got down to 55-below in far northern Wisconsin in early January, and the severe cold extended well into the spring season.

NEENAH, WI (WTAQ) - Despite a small drop in sales, the Bemis Corporation of Neenah reports a 24 percent increase in its quarterly profits over the last year.

The global maker of packaging materials had a net income of almost $66 million from April through June, up from $53 million in the same period a year ago.

Stockholders made 65 cents a share, up from 51 cents in the second quarter of 2013.

Bemis CEO Henry Thiesen credits the higher profits to a restructuring which included some plant closures and the dropping of businesses with lower-profit margins.

As a result, Bemis revenues fell from $1.3 billion in the second quarter of last year to $1.24 billion this year.

Without the divestitures and currency rate changes, Bemis said its net sales were consistent with last year.

Bemis remains a major employer in Wisconsin. It has 4,500 jobs in the state, among a total workforce of 19,000 throughout the world.

MARINETTE COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) - Authorities say the man who allegedly shot at an SUV and a Marinette County sheriff's vehicle on Highway 141 before turning the gun on himself Thursday had been dealing with depression.

Marinette County sheriff's also say he had become "quite agitated," recently.

Authorities also identified the gunman as 43-year-old Robb P. DeGroot of Green Bay. Initially, it was reported that the man was 35-years-old.

On Thursday around 3 p.m., the sheriffs department got a call that shots were being fired at a couple from Illinois driving their SUV to Upper Michigan on northbound Highway 141 near Wausaukee. The couple said the driver went off the road, then came up behind them and fired again.

Investigators say the second bullet from the 9mm handgun went inside the SUV. The Illinois couple did not know DeGroot.

Deputies say they caught up with DeGroot around Pembine when he turned onto U.S. Highway 8. He fired a shot at them, and eventually turned down Shrine Road in Goodman.

The deputies called for backup on the dirt road. Authorities tried to contact DeGroot, but he didn't respond. They found him in some wood, face down on the ground, with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Investigators say an autopsy Friday confirmed DeGroot died from a gunshot wound to the head. They're awaiting toxicology results to see if he had been using drugs or drinking.

STURGEON BAY, WI (WTAQ) - The man convicted of murdering his pregnant girlfriend and her unborn child while visiting Door County will spend the rest of his life in prison.

On Thursday, 37-year-old Brian Cooper received two life sentences without the possibility for parole.

Cooper was convicted during a second trial in May, after the first trial ended with a hung jury.

In 2012, Cooper and 21-year-old Alisha Bromfield attended her sister's wedding at a Door County resort. After rejecting Cooper's romantic advances, he strangled Bromfield. Cooper also sexually assaulted her afterwards.

During the first trial, Cooper successfully argued he was too drunk to have intended to kill Bromfield. That has since led to a state law which eliminates the intoxication defense.

ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ) - A multi-jurisdictional effort helped take seven juveniles, ages 11 to 15, into custody following a rash of vehicle thefts and break-ins over the past week.

Ashwaubenon Public Safety located a stolen pickup truck on a trail in Sherwood Forest Park Wednesday. When an officer went back to the scene, he saw four kids run off.

Two were quickly arrested. Two others ran into the woods and were later found – one by a police K-9.

Authorities say the teens – all from Green Bay – were behind four Green Bay car thefts, one in Hobart/Lawrence, one in Outagamie County and the one theft from Marlee Lane in Ashwaubenon. Three girls are also facing charges for going along for the rides.

“They used them for what they were going to use them for, in this case with the truck from Ashwaubenon, they used it, took it for a joy ride, went to McDonald’s, got some food and then found a place to hide it,” said Public Safety Lt. Jody Crocker.

Crocker says the teens are also suspected in 20 vehicle break-ins where they were looking for keys, drugs or money. Crimes of opportunity, police say are easily preventable.

Crocker says it was stopped thanks to the help from Green Bay Police and the Brown County Sheriff's Department K-9 unit.

Police are reminding people to lock up your vehicles and remove any valuables.

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - If you're planning to be outside this weekend, Saturday is your best chance to stay dry.

The National Weather Service says a small ridge of high pressure will move into western Wisconsin Friday night, pushing a weak cold front that will carry showers and thunderstorms toward the east and eventually into Lake Michigan.

The threat of rain is expected to end Friday evening in western Wisconsin, and overnight in the east.

A warm and dry day is predicted for Saturday, with highs in the 80's -- just in time for the opening of the Packers' training camp in Green Bay, where the public can watch outdoor practices but not those moved inside if it rains.

Showers are a possibility late Saturday night and Sunday in much of the Badger State, as another cold front goes through.

Some trees were lost to the weather, but at least one orchard says it is expecting the biggest crop in the last 8 years.

Cherry picking season is a short one. It should be wrapped up in about a month.

At 12 million pounds or so, Door County is the fourth-largest producer of tart cherries in the U.S.

BROWN COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) - The Brown County Sheriff's Department is investigating the break-ins at over a dozen storage units in the past couple of weeks.

They've happened at five different sites in Hobart, Howard and Bellevue

“There’s multiple items…some jewelry [and] sporting goods. In particular we have several spools of wire that were used in construction purposes,” Capt. David Konrath with the Brown County Sheriff’s Office told FOX 11.

Konrath says some of the other items that were stolen include generators, tools, and a slab of granite.

“It’s in the thousands of dollars. There’s some of the jewelry that was worth, one piece was worth $8,000,” Konrath said.

Konrath says the suspects are also replacing the locks for easy access.

“If they put a lock on it, it won’t be noticed as readily as a storage unit without a lock,” Konrath said.

Konrath says the department looked at surveillance video from the storage facilities, but there aren’t any suspects at this time.

Managers at the affected storage units say they are notifying their customers.

Konrath says if you have a storage unit, check the lock and make sure nothing was taken.
