Meth bust in the northwoods

Oconto County, WI (WTAQ) -  Police say two people were arrested Monday following an investigation into methamphetamine use. 

The Northeast Tri-County Drug Enforcement Group says a 29-year-old Oconto man was arrested for delivery of meth. He is in the Marinette County Jail. 

Following that arrest, officers found more evidence of meth manufacturing at a home in Little River. Police say they then arrested a 39-year-old woman.

She is in the Oconto County Jail.


Downtown Green Bay hotel to close for a year

Green Bay, WI (WTAQ) - Green Bay city leaders say they are frustrated with a downtown project that is taking longer than expected. 

The process of renovating the former Clarion Hotel is changing. 

This Friday, the hotel will close with the goal of reopening next August with millions of dollars in upgrades. 

Last July, Green Bay’s city council picked which company it was going to sell the Clarion Hotel to, but a year later, the city still owns the property and is paying its bills.

The CVB says it's dealing with trying to find hotel room for individuals, groups and conventions that have already booked rooms at the Clarion

Search goes into its 3rd day

Winneconne, WI (WTAQ) - A special K9 team is being brought in today as the search for a missing Weyauwega man continues on Lake Winneconne.

The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Dive Team and DNR used sonar yesterday in efforts to locate the body of 52-year-old Roger Inderdahl, but wind and rough waters cut the search short at 3:30 p.m.

Inderdahl has been missing since going fishing Monday. His boat was found going in circles on the lake early Monday afternoon.

Oshkosh, WI (WTAQ) -  Health officials in Oshkosh have declared a water quality advisory on Lake Winnebago because of blue-green algae.

It’s a warning that may last all summer long.  It’s in the backwater channels. It’s in the area bays too. Blue-green algae has bloomed on the western shore of Lake Winnebago. 

DNR water experts say blue-green algae is a dangerous bacteria.

Domestic dispute leads to stabbing

Two Rivers, WI (WTAQ) - Two Rivers police say a 46-year-old man was taken to the hospital after being stabbed by his ex-girlfriend. 

Cops say the incident started shortly before 5:00 Tuesday afternoon at a home on 19th street. 

When they arrived  the 50-year-old woman would not come out of the home and more officers were called in to help. 

The woman came out and needed to be treated for self-inflicted stab wounds. 

No one suffered serious injuries

Missing markers from veterans' graves

Beaver Dam, WI (WTAQ) - Somebody observed the nation's birthday by stealing dozens of military flag holders from veterans' graves at a cemetery in Beaver Dam.

Ross Kottke, who manages the Oakwood Cemetery, tells the Beaver Dam Daily Citizen it's "disgusting" that someone would rob the veterans who were honored.

Authorities said the bronze markers were stolen from the graves of Korean War veterans and those who served in both World Wars. 

Packers rededicate Harlan Plaza

Green Bay, WI (WTAQ) - The Green Bay Packers have rededicated the plaza on the north end of Lambeau Field to long-time Packers executive Bob Harlan. 

The plaza bore his name from 2003 until earlier this year when construction work tore up one of the more photographed areas of the stadium.

The area outside the Miller Lite gate included statues of team founder, former player and coach Curly Lambeau and coach Vince Lombardi.  The iconic statues are now in the newly remodeled plaza.

Harlan served in various roles with the Packers over his 37-year tenure, most recently serving as the team chairman from 2007-2008, until he retired with “chairman emeritus” status. 

City Hall drama in Clintonville

Clintonville, WI (WTAQ) - Clintonville City administrator Lisa Kotter has again been placed on a paid administrative leave by the City Council.  

The board voted Tuesday to place Kotter on leave for an undetermined amount of time, pending the gathering of additional information.   No word on what that information might be.

Earlier this year, the council placed Kotter on paid administrative leave amidst allegations of misconduct.

Mayor Judith Magee vetoed the move – putting Kotter back on the job – and the council failed to override that veto. The council then issued a no-confidence vote in Magee.


Body of missing boater found

Winneconne, WI (WTAQ) - A 3 day long search for a missing boater on Lake Winneconne is over to be over. 

Winnebago County officials getting the call to an unresponsive male on the east shoreline of the lake just before 10:30 p.m last night (WED). 

They've  identified the body as that of 52-year-old Roger Inderdahl of Weyauwega.  He'd been missing since Monday, when his boat was found empty out on the lake. 

The cause of death is under investigation.

Close call after fire sweeps through a Fond du Lac County mobile home

Town of Lamartine, WI (WTAQ) - A mobile home is a total loss after an overnight fire in Fond du Lac County. 

Firefighters got the call from the homeowner around 12:30 a.m. this morning (Thursday) after she escaped the smoke and flames from the residence on Fairview Road in the town of Lamartine. 

The home’s garage was also destroyed. Officials say the fire is *not* suspicious and could have been caused by an electrical problem. 

The homeowner and a firefighter were treated for smoke inhalation.

Stubborn fire keeps crew busy for hours

Hobart, WI (WTAQ) - Crews battled a fire at an industrial site in Hobart for several hours Wednesday evening. 

There were no injuries, but nearby Highway 54/Mason St. was closed in both directions at Haven Place because of the fire.

The property is the former site of One Source Recycling, which authorities say has been closed for years.

The fire burned one building on the property.

Hoop dreams return to a Green Bay park

Green Bay, WI (WTAQ) - Despite having courts, basketball hasn’t been played at a Green Bay park in a year, but that’s likely about to change.

Green Bay’s Parks Committee voted Wednesday to recommend restoring the basketball rims at Fisk Park, near West High School.

Green Bay Police say crimes were common at Fisk Park until an officer decided to remove the park’s basketball rims last summer.

If the city council backs up the recommendation of the parks committee, the hoops could be up by August 1st.

Kimberly woman needs to write some big checks

Kimberly, WI (WTAQ) - A woman who allegedly hit a highway worker with her car during an argument is now the owner of three tickets. 

The incident happened Wednesday morning at the intersection of E. Kennedy Ave. and Hwy. N in Kimberly.

Police say workers from the highway department had just laid asphalt when the woman wanted to drive through.

Two workers tried to stop her, she argued and kept going, bumping one of them with her car to try to get the worker out of her way.

She then drove through the construction zone, damaging the road.

Police caught up with Patricia Carlson, and left her with tickets totaling nearl $1200.

Green Bay, WI (WTAQ) - 2014 is looking like a very good year for the Green Bay Packers.  We're not talking about on the field.....but in the bank account. 

Packers President and C-E-O Mark Murphy says it starts with continued success on the field....and then improving the fan experience. We're talking a record $324 million in revenue, a 5 percent hike over 2013.   That helped cover a 17 percent increase in expenses.

Murphy says continued success will also center on how wisely the Packers develope the property they own to the west of Lambeau Field.

Missing Door County kayakers being treated for hypothermia

Fish Creek, WI (WTAQ) - An overnight search for 3 missing kayakers in Door County appears to have come to a happy end.

Details are still incomplete, but after a night of searching rescue crews say they've found the trio.

Authorities said a 43-year-old woman and two nine-year-old boys were in a pair of kayaks that left Nicolet Bay at Peninsula State Park around 2:45 yesterday afternoon (THUR). They were supposed to return by four o'clock, and didn't.

All three were wearing life jackets. 


Attempted abduction in Appleton

Appleton, WI (WTAQ) - A man tried to abduct a woman Thursday night in Appleton.  

Police say the attempted abduction happened just after 11 p.m. in the area of W. Second Street and S. Outagamie Street. 

The 23-year-old victim told police she was walking to her vehicle when a man grabbed her. The victim said she yelled and struggled with the man.

The attacker then ran to a dark colored SUV and left the area. 

The victim was not hurt. 

Appleton PD continues to investigate.

Feds investigate fatal explosion in Howard

Howard, WI (WTAQ) - The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will probe a fatal truck explosion that happened last spring when a forklift pierced the vehicle’s natural gas fuel tank.

The federal agency said the April 3rd accident in Howard occurred when the truck braked, and the forklift rolled forward, broke through the cargo compartment wall and hit the gas tank behind the cab.

The truck’s 59-year-old driver died in the accident, and a 29-year-old passenger was ejected and injured.

De Pere school goes the bankruptcy route

De Pere, WI (WTAQ) - The Wisconsin International School filed for bankruptcy Thursday, according to court documents.  The De Pere school announced its closure last month.  

The school says it has less than $50,000 in assets, and owes $549,614.29 to between 100-199 creditors.  

Among the debts listed are wages to 30 people, totaling $166,175.88. It also owes dozens of people credit for tuition paid, plus utilities bills, and other expenses. 

A meeting of creditors is scheduled for Aug. 21 at the state office building in downtown Green Bay.

Wicklund report release is expected within days

Green Bay, WI (WTAQ) - We should learn early next week what a state review has to say about a controversial arrest involving a Green Bay police officer. 

The state Department of Justice says it will release its review of allegations against Officer Derek Wicklund then. He’s being investigated for possible excessive force. 

Cellphone video from April shows Wicklund pushing a suspect against a squad car, then taking him to the ground. 

The state examined whether the tactics are consistent with training.

Suspect in the death of a child enters plea

Oshkosh, WI (WTAQ) - A Fox Valley man pleaded innocent today (FRI) to causing the death of his fiancee's three-year-old daughter.

Ryan Jorgenson of Menasha, who turns 27 on Monday, is charged with first-degree reckless homicide. A trial date of January 12th has been set in Winnebago County Circuit Court.  

According to prosecutors, Jorgenson claimed the girl fell down some stairs and suffered a seizure.

Paramedics said the child's injuries were too severe for that.
