MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ) - Two Manitowoc County men are due in court Monday, for allegedly running a pair of methamphetamine labs that may have caused wastewater testing issues.

29-year-old Michael Fenn of Kiel and 33-year-old Craig Holtz of St. Nazianz were charged this week with a total of nine felony counts.

Fenn is dealing with five counts, and Holtz four -- mostly involving the manufacturing and possession of meth. Holtz is also charged with possessing improvised explosives as a repeat offender.

Both men were arrested two weeks ago by Manitowoc County's metro drug unit.

Officials said their recent pharmacy purchases of meth ingredients helped give them away. They also said some of the chemical waste was found in the St. Nazianz sewage system, possibly resulting in wastewater testing concerns.

NEILLSVILLE, WI (WTAQ) - Several waves of thunderstorms went through Wisconsin's mid-section Wednesday morning.

Hail fell at various times in a number of communities between 4:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. -- and the Ironton area in Sauk County was under a severe thunderstorm warning until 10:30 a.m..

Clark County appeared to be the hardest Wednesday morning. Almost tennis ball-sized hail fell near Neillsville, and Christie -- about 20 miles west of Marshfield -- had hail two inches deep.

Places between Galesville and Sheboygan had anywhere from a quarter-inch to one inch hail. That was after southern Wisconsin had hail in some areas Tuesday night.

As of 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, almost 250 electric customers had power outages. Xcel Energy had around 100 outages in northwest Wisconsin, including 70 at Menomonie.

A low pressure system that's approaching the state from the west is expected to bring more showers and thunderstorms to all of Wisconsin at least into Wednesday evening.

A cloudy and warmer day is in the offing for Thursday. Parts of southern Wisconsin could hit 80 degrees for the first time this year -- and more thunderstorms are due in later Thursday and into Friday.

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - This year's Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive will take place Saturday in Brown County.

On Wednesday, Brown County Executive Troy Streckenbach and Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt teamed up to help out the National Letter Carriers Association with a proclamation declaring May 10, 2014 as Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive Day.

"As a community we do come together and collaborate on addressing a lot of issues that are facing our community and one of these is bringing attention and awareness to stamping out hunger," said Streckenbach.

Postal workers will pick up non-perishable food donations left near people’s mailboxes starting at 9 a.m. for this 22nd annual food drive. During its time, Brown County residents have donated more than 1.3 million pounds of food for local food pantries. In 2013, 23 local food pantries benefitted from the collection.

“You get a lot of satisfaction because you do a lot of good for the people that are unfortunate and in the community that they might not have jobs or there’s a lot of senior people out there that can’t put food on the table because of the high costs today,” said local mail carrier Tim Voelker.

If you miss Saturday's collection, Voelker says postal workers will still pick up donations left at the mailbox on Monday and Tuesday.

OCONTO, WI (WTAQ) - A shooting range in Oconto County will remain closed for now, after a county board committee discussed options for it Thursday.

The Machickanee Forest Shooting Range was shut down last Friday after officials say stray bullets were hitting homes near the range in the Town of Morgan.

The Forest, Parks and Recreation/Land Information Systems Subcommittee says the range could re-open after a grant-funded remodel for a short range for pistols. Hours of operation and rates may also be restricted.

However, an ordinance change like that could take at least three months.

Chance of showers, storms with hail and high winds Thursday

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - More heavy thunderstorms are predicted for Wisconsin Thursday afternoon -- and some could be severe Thursday evening, especially in the western half of the state.

The National Weather Service did not issue any storm watches or warnings as of mid-morning. But it did say that large hail and damage winds are possible, along with a threat of tornadoes in western and central areas.

A very warm day is expected in the Green Bay area with temperatures topping out in the mid-70s and a chance of showers and thunderstorms.

Most of the showers and thunderstorms will hold off until the evening and overnight hours and some of the storms may be strong or severe with large hail and high winds along with heavy rain.

Winds will pick up out of the south and southeast Thursday at 10 to 20 miles per hour.

For now, southern Wisconsin is enjoying what could be its best day of the year, with 10 a.m. temperatures generally in the 70's under partly sunny skies. Janesville had a summer-like 77, while folks in Superior were still grabbing for their winter coats amid a 38 degree reading.

Madison is expecting 80 degrees Thursday afternoon, before the storms come in advance of a low pressure system that's heading our way. It's due in northwest Iowa by Thursday evening.

Another round of hail went through north central Wisconsin overnight. Pea to dime-sized hail fell at River Falls, Ellsworth, Gilman in Taylor County, and Summit Lake in Langlade County.

A dry day is likely Friday, but there's still a slight chance of rain in the forecast all the way through Monday.

Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt preparing offer to host NFL Draft

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - Midtown Manhattan will start hosting another NFL Draft tonight -- and the mayor of Green Bay says he'd love to have Titletown house the big event.

Commissioner Roger Goodell said a while back that he'd like to see the three-day draft move around to various cities.

On an NFL Network podcast this week, Goodell said the mayors of Los Angeles and Chicago have been the most aggressive.

Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt says his office has taken steps to try and get the draft to Packerland. He said it would take a partnership between the city, the Packers, the area's Convention and Visitors Bureau, and other private entities.

Schmitt says a formal proposal is still being discussed, but he promises to do whatever's possible to bring the draft to Wisconsin.

He said the Resch Center, which is close to Lambeau Field, would be a good spot. It can seat almost 10,000 people -- about 4,000 more than the draft's present home at Radio City Music Hall.

That's where the Packers will call in their picks. They have nine now, including the 21st selection in tonight's first round.

Update plan for Walmart's Broadway District store released

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - Walmart has officially submitted new renderings and a site plan to the city of Green Bay Thursday.

It calls for a 154,000 square foot store with 623 parking spaces in the Broadway District.

The new renderings show facade changes, including red brick and second-floor windows.

In a statement, the company said:

“We’ve made significant changes to the original proposal that allow for additional development on the site, include urban and pedestrian-friendly elements, and incorporate design features that reflect the Broadway district’s historic character.”

Also in the update plan, Walmart has set aside 500,000 square feet of the Larsen Green property which would allow for first floor parking and residential or office use.

Green Bay city leaders voted back in March to change the future use of that site to a "downtown" designation. The vote prevented a big box-sized building from being constructed on the property.

ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ) - The Salvation Army of Brown County is welcoming 18,000 cans of Campbell's soup that was donated through the Sacks for Soup campaign.

"It helps us with our budget, and more important in fact, it helps us with the people in the community who come to us for food. We have something more to give them to help solve their food shortage problems," says Capt. Ken Shiels, Brown County Coordinator for the Salvation Army. "The fact is, we've had to deal with some shortages recently, just not enough to go around, and this donation helps us to increase the food we can give to people."

Through the Sacks for Soup campaign, Campbell Soup Company made donations of 1,000 cans of soup to a food bank in the opposing city during the Green Bay Packers 2013 season. They also donated 1,000 cans to the Salvation Army food pantry each week throughout the season, including the playoffs.

Green Bay Packers make S Clinton-Dix their 1st round draft pick

NEW YORK (WTAQ) - The Green Bay Packers filled a big hole in their secondary Thursday night, by selecting Alabama safety Ha Ha Clinton Dix with the 21st overall pick in the NFL Draft.

Clinton-Dix was a college teammate of Packers' running back Eddie Lacy. He's expected to be an immediate starter for a Green Bay safety unit that was the only NFL team not to get an interception last year.

General manager Ted Thompson calls Clinton-Dix a complete all-around player.

Clinton-Dix is 6'1-and-1/2 and 207 pounds. He left Alabama after his junior year, with two years as a starter behind him.

Thompson admitted it was a rough night in the Packers' war room. Two inside linebackers the team wanted were long gone by the time Green Bay got on the clock. Ryan Shazier of Ohio State went to Pittsburgh at Number 15. C.J. Mosley of Alabama was claimed by Baltimore with the 17th pick.

Thompson said he would have been "crushed" had Clinton-Dix gone to New Orleans one pick ahead of the Pack. But the Saints took receiver Brandin Cooks, leaving Green Bay to meet an immediate need on defense.

The Packers have eight more draft picks left -- including three in Friday night's second and third rounds.

Drier weather possible for Mother's Day weekend

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - Most of Wisconsin escaped the severe weather that neighboring Minnesota had last night -- but far western Wisconsin did get some of the spillover.

Almost two-and-a-half inches of rain fell near Hudson. Highway 29 near Menomonie had up to 3 inches of water.

In Pierce County, a fallen tree blocked Highway 35. Nearby Elmwood also had some trees down.

Parts of southeast Wisconsin had hail Thursday evening -- three-fourths of an inch at Jackson.

Much of Minnesota had heavy storms -- including a tornado at Gaylord and 80 mile an hour winds at Waseca. Most of those storms fizzed out before they could head east into Wisconsin.

A cold front will sweep across the Badger State Friday. Forecasters say light rain is possible until the front passes.

In the Green Bay area, an area of high pressure will keep us dry and mostly sunny on Saturday with a high near 68 and breezy west winds at 10 to 20 miles per hour.

There’s a chance of showers on Saturday night into Sunday morning and again on Sunday afternoon, otherwise look for mostly cloudy skies with a high near 70.

After that, it should stay dry at least into Saturday night when another wave of thunderstorms could go through. There's also a chance of rain on Mother's Day.

Highs are forecast in the 60's and 70's in most of the state through the weekend. It's supposed to get cooler again on Monday.
