DE PERE, WI (WTAQ) - A school of business and economics, along with the start of a master of business administration program, is coming to St. Norbert College.

It's being helped by the $7 million donation from Pat Schneider. Schneider's husband, Don, ran the trucking company Schneider National for many years.

Don Schneider graduated in 1957 from St. Norbert College. He was a member of St. Norbert’s board of trustees from 1978 until his death in 2012.

“The Donald J. Schneider School of Business and Economics will provide the highest-quality education for business and not-for-profit leaders,” St. Norbert President Thomas Kunkel said in a news release. “Building on St. Norbert’s firm grounding in the liberal arts and its commitment to ethics instruction, the new MBA program will position the college as the intellectual center of values-based business education in northeastern Wisconsin.”

The college’s existing business administration and economics departments will become part of the new school, and more faculty and staff members will be hired. It will also have an advisory board made up of area business leaders.

The MBA program is expected to begin in 2015.

Investigation continues into Menasha sexting incident

MENASHA, WI (WTAQ) - We're learning more details surrounding a sexting investigation in the Fox Valley.

Menasha police are investigating the incident involving area students, mostly from Menasha High School.

Investigators say at least a dozen students, between the ages of 14 and 16, are involved in the sending or receiving of nude photos which were posted online to an unnamed social media website.

"We have an officer who's a forensic examiner who'll be looking through the electronic side of things...cell phones, computers, trying to determine what information is evidentiary on there," says Menasha Police Officer Aaron Zemlock. "There's certainly some very serious consequences that can be born out of this, regardless of its initial intent, the laws are fairly strict when it comes to child pornography or posting nude photos of somebody without their consent."

Zemlock says he can't recall the department investigating this kind of sexting issue involving so many students. It apparently was male students who sought the photos from female students and then some of those photos ended up on the Internet.

"I don't think it comes as a great surprise to a lot of people," says Zemlock. "A quick Google search will show you that these types of things have been occurring on a more regular basis."

Zemlock says the investigation is ongoing and says this is a lesson to all students about what they share on social media.

“We try to teach our kids, you know, respect your body, respect, you know, those types of images and I think with the era that these kids live in, the information sharing is so quick and so instantaneous that I think it doesn’t stick with them that, ‘Anything I put up there is there forever,’” Zemlock adds.

The website has since been completely locked as police continue their investigation.

Wisconsinites warned about overcharges at American TV and Appliance

MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - State consumer protection officials say American TV and Appliance has been charging more than what their price tags show during their going out of business sale.

The Madison-based company announced last week it was closing its 11 locations in three states after 60 years in business.

Wednesday, state consumer officials said its inspectors did price checks Monday on 325 items throughout American's seven Wisconsin stores -- and it found overcharges by an average of 5.5 percent.

A Madison store had seven overcharges -- and when an inspector paid a second visit Tuesday, all the cash register mistakes were corrected.

One store in Appleton was reported to overcharge a major item by up to $314 above the sticker price. Waukesha was the only Wisconsin store where overcharges were not discovered.

State officials advised shoppers to take the price tags from the items they want to buy, and make sure the cash register rings up the same prices.

State law requires stores to charge the lowest advertised prices -- and when customers are overcharged, they're entitled to refunds.

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - Members of Wisconsin's two largest teachers' unions will have to wait longer to decide whether the groups should merge.

The Wisconsin Education Association Council and the state chapter of the American Federation of Teachers say their members want more information. And that's why they're delaying a vote on the merger that was scheduled for April 26th in Green Bay.

Wednesday, both unions said they would form a committee to provide information on how a merged group would operate.

The unions say they've lost about 30 percent of their members since the state virtually eliminated their collective bargaining privileges in 2011 by passing the Act 10 law.

Vicki Patterson charged with writing bad checks to local churches

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - A Green Bay woman who was previously convicted of embezzlement is now accused of writing worthless checks to a half-dozen Catholic churches.

39-year-old Vicki Patterson is charged with four counts of writing bad checks. Two felony counts were filed earlier this month, and she's scheduled to have a preliminary hearing on those Friday in Brown County Circuit Court.

Online court records also list two misdemeanor bad check charges -- and the status of that case will be reviewed Friday.

Patterson is accused of writing almost $5,700 in bad checks to Catholic parishes to buy scrip cards, used by churches to raise funds. Scrip cards allow buyers to make purchases at local businesses, with the parishes to get part of the proceeds.

One church reportedly tried canceling a scrip card once it learned about the bad check -- but Patterson had already reportedly used it.

She was freed from prison last fall, after a three-year term for embezzling $44,000 as an officer at the Green Bay Swim Club. She was also convicted in 2001 for stealing $3,000 while she was a part-time dance instructor for De Pere's recreation department.

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - Would you like to see Pope Francis visit Northeast Wisconsin?

Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt would, and he's formally invited the pontiff to make a pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help in Champion.

The Catholic Church validated an appearance by the Virgin Mary in the mid-1800s at the rural Brown County shrine in 2010.

In the letter, Schmitt wrote that the community is filled with a generous heart for its connection to the Virgin Mary. The Mayor also said that a papal visit to the Green Bay area would be a blessing that would lift the lives of the people who live here.

This invitation is to extend Pope Francis' possible visit to the United States in 2015. The Pope has shown an interest in attending the 8th World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia.

Bill would wipe out "voluntary intoxication" defense in homicide cases

MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - Under a new Wisconsin bill, suspects could no longer escape murder convictions by claiming they were too drunk to know what they were doing.

Assembly Republican Steve Nass of Whitewater wants to remove "voluntary intoxication" as an allowable defense in homicide cases.

The bill got a public hearing Thursday before the Assembly's judiciary committee.

It's in response to the case of Brian Cooper of Illinois, who allegedly raped and strangled a pregnant Alisha Bromfield at a Door County resort after she rejected his request for a deeper love relationship.

At his trial in 2012, jurors from Wood County could not agree to convict Cooper for murder, after he claimed he was too drunk to have intended to murder Bromfield and her unborn child.

At the hearing on the new bill, Cooper's own sister Kellie Stryker called the hung jury, "the ultimate injustice." She urged lawmakers to stop letting people use alcohol as an excuse. Bromfield's mother said the defense kept Cooper from being found guilty.

The 37-year-old Cooper was convicted of sexual assault, but there was a hung jury on two first-degree intentional homicide counts.

A retrial on those is scheduled to start May 2nd. Nass' bill would affect future cases, but not Cooper's.

MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ) - Starving ducks are once again jumping into Lake Michigan at Manitowoc to look for food.

That's after a trawler was used to break up ice on the harbors at Manitowoc and nearby Two Rivers.

The cold winter has caused larger than normal ice buildups. It's preventing ducks that don't migrate south from reaching the food they normally rely upon.

Animal rehab clinics are treating a larger than normal number of malnourished ducks this winter.

Conservationist Tom Kocourek said enough was enough. He called a marine contractor which broke up the ice in the harbors.

Mike LeClair, who runs a fish company in Two Rivers, said they had to do something.

Jim Knickelbine of the Woodland Dunes Nature Center in Two Rivers tells the Manitowoc Herald-Times Reporter he was, "blown away" by the effort. He said it reflects "good things about the community."

OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ) - Arnold Schwarzenegger quietly slipped in and out of Oshkosh Thursday, where he test drove military vehicles made at the Oshkosh Corporation.

Company spokesman John Daggett tells the Oshkosh Northwestern that the "Terminator" toured the main plant, and took a 13-ton mine-resistant ATV for a ride on a test course.

Daggett said Schwarzenegger became acquainted with Oshkosh military vehicles when the firm entered a concept unit in a race across the Mexican desert a few years ago.

Schwarzenegger, a former California governor, could not have bought one of the vehicles he saw Thursday. Daggett said the design is the property of the Defense Department -- and the company cannot sell the military products to private persons or businesses.

Green Bay's Homeless Task Force is considering opening a resource center in an empty space at 600 S. Adams Street.

It would have information about health care and jobs.

“Absolutely excited about it,” Jane Jordan of Lutheran Social Services told FOX 11.

By June 1, Jordan hopes a building will become a resource for struggling adults looking to change their lives. Lutheran Social Services would rent the building and run the center.

“It has been perseverance and determination, but we understand how very important this is to fulfill a gap within the community,” said Jordan.

Plans would be to open every day except Saturday and its only two blocks from St. John the Evangelist Homeless Shelter.

City officials would still need to approve a conditional use permit. Jordan expects to file paperwork with the city in the next few weeks.
